Black bits in ds urine

Has anyone got any experience of this? Ds is 5yo and I have noticed over the last 3 or 4 days (because he often forgets to flush!) that there is black particles in the water after he has been. Itching to google but have so far resisted with it being saturday - could live without panicking for the whole wknd!

However prepared to panic if there is good reason!

Thanks Smile

Are you sure they are actually in his urine and not something he's throwing down the toilet- eg fluff. If he was passing bits rather than liquid he would be in agony- you would know about it

Fairly sure but I have asked him to wee in the potty for the next few times.

Well, probably the best best would be to collect a clean sample and take it to out of hours GP. That's what I would do rather than worrying. Good luck.

I am not a doctor but had a google on your behalf. Wasn't terrifying. Smile The things that came up were UTIs, kidney stones, a fungal infection and dehydration.

I think if I was in your position I would make sure he is hydrated/comfortable all weekend and see a GP on Monday (although obvs trust your instincts and call nhs/OOH if you're worried.)

Thanks ever so much for all your responses Smile there has been no further black bits so goodness knows what it was Hmm dh has suggested fluff out of pjs or pants. I think maybe he's weeing a bit forcefully as he usually leaves it to the last moment to go and perhaps he's blasting off something under the rim of the toilet bowl (obviously this is the least likely as the toilet is immaculately clean at all timesHmm !)
Will keep an eye on it tho and see gp next week if i'm worried.

Funnily enough one of the pages I read said the black specks can be related to withholding urine - but don't know how trustworthy it is as it was a thread on another forum rather than an nhs type link.

Hope it is just fluff! (Although am not casting aspersions on the cleanliness of your loo, I'm sure it's sparkling) Grin

Oh really? That's interesting. I think school is trying to encourage him to recognise when he has the urge to go. I also realised that he is not drinking enough at school - only his carton of juice at lunchtime even tho' he takes a bottle of water to drink. Confused

I used to be exactly the same when I was at primary school.
I think it's hard for little ones to remember to drink.

At least now they have water bottles and don't have to drink water from the fountain, It is completely irrational but I never wanted to drink from it Blush
