See your GP again, and don't worry. How is your DD behaving? Does she seem unwell? Is she drinking enough fluids?

ChippingInLatteLover · 11/01/2015 18:16

Of course it's sensible to see the Doctor again. But as everyone has said, it's not a red flag in children, it's likely to be straining or a fissure.

Really, please, try not to worry.

Are you sure it's blood? Not something she's eaten? (Just a thought).

mandmsmummy · 11/01/2015 18:23

Not food, it looks like a vein??
She's been complaining of feeling poorly for two days, bit of a virus I thought. Doesn't seem too bad just under the weather. X

How come it's not a red flag in children? X

She hasn't been eating red pepper has she? That always gives me a start when I see it in poo.

My DD had blood in her poo on and off for months as a baby, she was referred to the paediatrician who took a wait and see approach, and it eventually stopped and never happened again. No idea what it was, but the doctor certainly wasn't worried.

Thanks xx

I thought red pepper too..

My dd had blood in her poo from the age of 6months until about the age of ten. It wasn't every poo but it was regular enough for her to have all the procedures her paediatric gastroenterologist could think of. Nothing was ever found and it stopped apparently as randomly as it started. I was told from the start that blood in poo in children is 'not common but not unusual' and their isn't always an answer as to why.
So yeah, by all means take her back to your gp but try not to worry Smile Wine

mandmsmummy · 11/01/2015 19:14

Thanks all. She hadn't had red pepper, if only she liked it!!

Been to gp, said it's rare to be anything sinister. I'm really panicking because I lost my brother in law to bowel cancer who had blood. I know it's stupid but I can't help it.
My daughter complains of tummy ache a lot and looks pale but plays happily and eats etc thriving I suppose you would say.
Gp sent the poo off and sending her for blood tests.
