He has a cough. Had 2 puffs this morning, just collected from school as had 3 x 2 puffs there over morning. Left message for gp, should he see someone today?

Hi grumpa. Hopefully someone more experienced will post too as I don't want to give you bad advice, but if it's reassuring, dd (3) has had far more than that in a day. We were told we'd only need to see someone if she wasn't responding to puffs at all or if we were having to give more than 10(!) every 2 hours.

Have you been told you can only give 2 puffs at once?

But it's always worth seeing a gp if you're worried and they should try to squeeze you in. What is the problem, the cough, or is he wheezy?

Thanks furious he is coughing which is his usual symptom but also wheezing with it, which is less usual.

He recovers on 2 puffs but it only lasts hour or so.

If he has an unusual symptom I would see a gp, to put your mind at rest if nothing else. Better to do that now that be worrying in the middle of the night if it's still not better.

I'm surprised you have only been advised to give up to 2 puffs, we were told 5-10 if dd was bad. But it may be different for coughing?

I think you can tell when he is not having a good day. You must be concerned to post on here.
Asking what someone else would do won't help because every child is different and will need differing amounts of medicine to feel relief.

Have you asked him if he feels he is struggling to breathe today, or not getting any relief from his inhaler.
I ask because I have had asthma my whole life.

Spoke to GP, will monitor overnight an he will see him tomorrow if no improvement. Said he is unlikely to change what we are doing at moment anyhow.

That's good you managed to get hold of gp. Hope your DS is better soon x

My GP is lovely, offered to see him tonight if i was very concerned but he settled a bit at home. Not well in self though so think a virus or infection so will get him checked out tomorrow.

They have upped his clenil to 400 micrograms a day, and will review in 3 weeks.

Fingers crossed it settles him.
