I think my son is just greedy...

My son (17 months) was born at 29 weeks, there was bit of an issue that the MW thought it would be good to try for a SROM, then when he deceled instead of ARM she pulled the emergency alarm and had to be shouted at to break the water (enough that it brought me around, as I zone out in labour, and I panicked). Other than that he was breathing for himself and cried to be fed from day one, he never did believe them he was too young to be fed, they did try him but it made him sick and he was still asking. At 34 weeks he stopped breathing, something was different because it shook the staff up but they never said what. The next day I discovered he was incredibly bloated and he was diagnosed with NEC.

He came home but about two weeks after the first episode I was holding him after a feed and realised my arm felt wet, I looked down and he was a sort of burgundy colour and had that shock look of someone who isn't breathing. His dad heard me call his name and took him off me which was enough to start him breathing again. We had a week in hospital with lots of tests and they found he had reflux and HIE.

The reflux caused torticollis which is now cleared. After he came out of hospital we started to notice he was getting splodges, he started to see lots of doctors and physio, lots of tests later we have:

Neurofibromatosis I
Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy
Junior Xanthogranuloma
Cerebral Palsy
Chronic Lung Disease

Possibly he has epilepsy and they're planning a sweat test for Cystic Fibrosis.

The HIE/ CP/ epilepsy are because of birth injury in the moments it took the midwife to cut the water when he was deceling, however the rest of it is all independent and would have affected him anyway, none of his problems are because he was premature, he was discharged from maternity fairly early really.

I feel like I'm missing something from the list.

Do I have the greediest baby?

Wow, that is quite a collection. It sounds like you, and he, have really been through it. I hope things get less eventful for you now you know what you are dealing with and he can get the treatment he needs. And yes, that is pretty greedy!

Thank you Smile We have a lot of stuff coming up, with things that can not be discussed and assessments and renovations and goodness knows what else. I don't think life will ever be simple again Confused
