Molluscum contagiosum

I'm new to this site & not sure how to do this really. But it was to help all you others out there who are going through having a child with MC. I looked at so many threads & people's advice as I was so stressed with the situation.

My son had 6 spots on his torso. Originally I thought it was a cluster of moles, thenI looked into it and realised it was MC.

My advice: don't wait years for them to go. Deal with them. I had our first holiday abroad booked & there was no way i was gonna let these things stop my son going swimming etc. Anyway, I put vinegar on them, I don't know if this anything as such but it made the biggest one (the daddy) enlarge & flare up.

Cut a long story short. I burst it & it bled alot. I then covered them all with bazukka the varrucca stuff just to freeze them & not spread them. I bathed him every night in a hot bath, this would make the spots enlarged and red & you could see when they were ready to pop. This was very painful for my son & I felt incredibly guilty putting Him through it but i told him the consequences- no swimming in holiday!!

When the spots are ready for popping I can only describe it as a pearl like ball which comes out. Once that is out it will bleed alot but I dabbed it till it stopped & put a plaster over it. One by one I popped them. The process for all 6 of them to be ready to pop probably took about 2-3 weeks. Oh I always popped the spots with covered hands to stop further spread & infection.

My son has got red marks on his body where the spots were, but I'm hoping in time these will fade. It's only been 2 weeks since the last one popped.

I hope this helps someone out there as I found it incredibly stressful. Sounds dramatic but I just couldn't wait for them to go as my doctor advised.

Good luck ????

Sorry but I am not sure this is a good idea. My DD had them and they cleared up in 10 days without any popping or bleeding

there is no need to avoid swimming with molluscum. What you did does not sound pleasant for him and could cause scarring

Both of my DC had/have had them over over a year. More like 18 months. They will eventually go away on their own.

Admittedly I have squeezed three spots (out of about 150!) but they were huge and absolutely ready to go, just took a gentle squeeze and the core came out with no pain to DC.

I wouldn't normally squeeze any but these were the size of peas and very red or inflamed and I didn't want them to be knocked or scratched and spread.

DS had over 100+ and I never squeezed any of his. They eventually went away (I used 1ml of lemon myrtle oil to 10ml of olive oil and dabbed it on every night - clean towels and pjs daily). Also gave thuja 30c homeopathic tablets twice daily. Scars are visible if you look very closely, small white TINY pox marks.

DD had far fewer but they were much bigger. They have left red/purple marks but that is still recent. The scars take can months to go.

Yes, no need to avoid swimming.

Bathing him every night in a hot bath sounds very unpleasant.

It is really common childhood skin condition.

Do not think you needed to go to those lengths! Conzerol - worked a treat. My son had them for over a year on his torso. They looked awful and he was becoming really self conscious about them. Changing for sport & swimming was stressing him out.

Ordered the cream online - it comes from the US & within 2 weeks they were gone

I have just burst my daughters. I used a sterilised needle, gently pressed them and the core came out. They bled very slightly, didn't hurt a bit and were totally healed within 2 weeks.

My 18 month old daughter has had molluscum for the past year. It appears to be more aggressive.
In the past few months it has spread down her back and is making its way onto her torso. This means she can now pick and scratch at the individual warts and this is causing excessive bleeding and scarring.
I have had her to the doctor on numerous occasions but am always told the same thing; to simply wait for it to clear. I have been looking online and have seen the new treatment molludab. I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with this? Unfortunately it is not available where we live on prescription. I am reluctant to buy it in case it makes things worse and I don't want it to nip or sting.
I don't want to squeeze them as she is so young, she doesn't understand what I am doing. I don't want to cause her any unnecessary pain. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how to make this horrible virus go away?

FamiliesShareGerms · 19/05/2014 21:26

DS's hurt like hell to squeeze, DD's were mostly fine.

Time was the best healer for both of them, I'm afraid

lrourke732 · 19/05/2014 21:35

How long did it take for them to fully heal? It has been a year now and this is the worst they have been. ??

Theonlyoneiknow · 19/05/2014 22:12

Ds took about 18 months to be rid of them all. Once I started treating it they were gone in about 8-12 weeks. I gave him one thuja 30c homeopathic tablet morning and evening ( if you Google it does crop up as common remedy). And I mixed up one ml lemon myrtle oil to ten mls olive oil and dabbed on each spot daily. This dries them up (again Google lemon myrtle with molluscum). The ones,on his face just went dry and red and scabbed over but others went inflamed looking like they were going to burst. For these I it manuka honey antiseptic cream on or tea tree cream and covered with plaster. I also put a couple of drops of neat lemon myrtle oil in the, bath which helps stop the spreading.

Dd was born and sadly picked them up despite my best intentions. She is 18months too and sadly one got infected on her face which has left a horrible mess. An angry red scar now for over 12 weeks.

I wouldn't just leave them anymore. What I did above worked and Ds had easily 100+

It's such a horrible skin condition. Ds picked it up from the noodles at,the pool
