NHS choices for gastroenterologist paediatrician ????

Just been at the docs and have a referral form for a consult with a paediatrician.
My 8 week old son has reflux and is on Ranitidine and Domperidone. He still screams in pain most of the time and doesn't sleep well, fussy when feeding, wanted to feed constantly etc..
He's a big baby-12lb-he eats all the time and gaviscon has been keeping the milk down so he's put on alot of weight-75 pencil tile ,so I need a doctor who won't just do the well he's putting weight on fine routine..as the screaming and not sleeping is having a detrimental effect on the whole family.
How do I choose what doctor or hospital? We are in London. I'd like to be seen soonish if possible..
Any recommendations? Especially doctors who are sympathetic to reflux. I have seen a few who don't believe it exists!! Should take my boy home with them for a couple of days and they'd soon change their mind.

Sorry, I don't know re gastro, but I would suggest that you also have him checked for tongue tie by someone who knows what they are doing. It can sometimes be an underlying cause for reflux and some of the other behaviours you describe.

article here with list of symptoms

It may well be a milk protein allergy too. My DS has reflux and a cmpa. I can recommend Adam Fox at the Portland, Gideon Lack and George Du Toit. They all work at at Thomas's but do their private work at the Portland and will deal with reflux.

hi, just wonder if you are breast feeding or formula?

my child had awful problems , the screaming etc was destroyng our family.

I stopped breastfeeding and gave a formula , called neocate LCP . within 12 hours I had a new baby.
just an idea

Or if you're bf you could cut out dairy. Not sure I'd do either without professional advice.

Anyway, we got Neocate on prescription.

I've heard the allergy team at the evelina childrens hospital (ie at Thomas's) is top of the game. It is lead by Prof Gideon Lack and includes Adam fox and George, all I've heard good things about.

I got an urgent referral and we are being seen within 3 weeks since referral, so it seems things move quickly. All the best x

Yes I've been wondering whether it's allergy related..The GP reckons not as he has put on so much weight? I will push for a test-I think it's a stool test? He is on formula-Hipp hungry milk. Changed from Hipp infant as he was feeding so much and it's helped a bit with the amount he has. I was breastfeeding but when I realised I had another reflux baby ( my first DD had silent reflux) I knew I couldn't hack breastfeeding again. The feeding is 2/3 hours around the clock and he takes ages to feed. I knew if I breastfed I'd literally never put him down and I couldn't look after my DD at the same time. Also I just thought I couldn't physically manage it with the exhaustion and a low milk supply as a result not to mention the meds he has. I do days and nights and my DH will only do 1 late feed around midnight a couple times a week...

Don't be fobbed off with "it's tongue tie" or "allergies" if you KNOW it is reflux. Basically - if he stops screaming if you give him gaviscon it's reflux. St Thomas's sound good.

I feel your pain. There are clear links between reflux and parental mental health. Our paedietrician didn't believe either but at least had the grace to prescribe - to get me out of the room. You are in London not NZ but this site might be good www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/

My child had silent reflux and I could have thrown him out of the window - by one he was fully weaned - including all the no-nos like peanut butter and strawberries - weaned himself off BF (shame as I was happy to keep going) - and at nearly 4 he is a robust child with no sign of a single allergy etc.
