Any dentists around?

My ds (just gone 11) had some baby teeth removed years ago. I have just noticed that one of his eye teeth (still a baby tooth) has moved about a tooth's width away from his other teeth.

I am going to get an appointment ASAP, but was wondering what may happen. The tooth is not loose or causing him any pain. We saw the dentist in March and nothing amiss was noticed then.

It is likely his permanent canine is on its way through and is displacing the baby tooth as it moves. The tooth will loosen when enough of its root is resorted. Get it checked though to make sure this is the case, parents are often confused as to which tooth is which and movement of permanent incisors can happen when the canines erupt, this occasionally causes problems. May I add this is not an emergency so don't panic.

*resorbed - the roots of baby teeth are gradually resorbed by the body as the permanent pushes through under them, however they can be to one side of the root which results in baby tooth being pushed aside rather than the root being totally resorbed.

Thank you.

You're right about me not knowing which tooth is which, it's actually his canine Blush. I have an appointment for next week, so hopefully will find out soon.

If it happened to be a permanent tooth, would this mean braces to bring it back in line?

Not necessarily, teeth get pushed all over the place when others are erupting. It is the muscles in the lips, cheek and tongue that determine the eventual position of teeth.
