Speech therapy

Has anyone had any speech therapy for their children and if so, please can you tell me what it's like and how it is for the child? My DS is two years old and although he has some words, he still talks in his own baby language and I think the health visitor might suggest se speech therapy for a bit of help. I am not sure if this is a good idea at such a going age or whether it might actually be helpful and fun for my DS. I would be keen to hear from anyone who has done this for their child and what it's like, what they do, if the children find it fun or if it's scary.

I was referred for DS when he was 3...his speech had been slightly delayed and then he started to show some weird lisp like tendencies (like a raspberry at the end of certain words) and other oddities. The HV said she had never heard anything like it - though it was probably nothing to worry about.

Took DS to SLT. He sat and said NOTHING. Stubborn little bugger Grin. Speech therapist said she rarely saw children before about 3.5yo because of this.

We ended up going back 6 months later...a few tweaks, a few exercises and DS was fine.

Mention it to your HV if you are worried - but I would be surprised if you get a referral just now - your DS is still a baby....if you want to help him get him using straws, licking lollypops, licking his lips - all stuff that will help him strengthen his mouth/tongue muscles. That is all you are probably seeing (hearing) at the moment...everything is still new and unused...
