She has an impressive lump. They applied ice, and sent her home with list of things to watch for. She feels dizzy, and I've given her paracetamol for the pain. The problem is she now looks like she's going to sleep. She is tired anyway, she was at school for 7.30 for revision.
Do I just let her be?

Best getting her checked if she's feeling dizzy and is sleepy. It's always best to be on the safe side with head injuries. She's possibly concussed but you really should let a medic diagnose this.

I hope she's OK Smile

Dizzy, drowsy, sight issues, nausea, feeling faint - any of those and afraid it's hospital visit to be checked.

I would also feed them a sugary biccie or sweet tea for the shock.

Hope all goes ok and you are back home soon.

Don't let her go to sleep.

Stick her in the car, keep talking to her and make her respond. Get her checked out in hospital.

Probably nothing but please don't let drowsiness with a head injury go unchecked.

She's downed a tuna sandwich, fruit and a mini muffin! She's not quite asleep, as her head keeps popping up for a chat with me!
She's banged the front of her head, so has a nice big egg, am I right in thinking it's not as bad to bang that bit, or am I talking nonsense?

I'm a healthcare professional and symptoms like that would send me straight to A&E. Some head injuries result in immediate symptoms others develop slowly over a period of hours. Get her checked out ASAP.

My 23 month old recently banged her head and when I got her checked out (because of her age) the advice I received was that children will often feel like sleeping after an accident. If she drops off to sleep but you can rouse her easily and she is alert on being roused its fine.

If she drops off to sleep and you cannot rouse her, thats when you need to get her checked out.

dingit · 06/05/2014 14:45

Thanks Princess, it's 3 hours since she did it, a quick google tells me not to let them sleep up to 2 hours afterwards. I'm convinced she's just tired after a busy weekend, and not going to be when asked, as teens do!

Nifty, she's asleep, I woke her, she spoke to me, and has dozed back off. I think it's a case of let sleeping teenagers lie!

Sorry, why ask for advice if you are going to ignore what every single person has told you and rely on Dr. Google?

dingit · 07/05/2014 15:39

Van Gogh, I didn't ignore, those comments were made over half an hour, and in that time I managed to wake her twice and she was ok. Trust me, if not we would have been at A&e. Today she is fine, and just arrived home like a cat with two tails after getting 3 a* in her double science mocks.
