Uh-oh. Think the baby is getting her first cold.

She's sounding a bit congested and sneezing a fair bit. Anything I can do apart from Calpol to ease the symptoms? She's 5 months old.

You can buy something called snuffle baby which is a bit like Vicks vapour rub but for young babies. Rub it onto your babies chest to relieve congestion. Also you can get a calpol plug in which releases vapours to help them breathe more easily at night. Poor little thing!

Pop a couple of books under the head end of the cot so it is tilted, that'll help the mucus drain so she can breathe easier. I always found running a humidifier helped but some people just run a long hot shower and sit with baby in there for the steam (or bowl of water on radiator if you run heating all night). I wouldn't give calpol for a cold unless there was a temperature but that is just me.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll get to the pharmacy in the morning, she's definitely very snotty now.

Rub it into her feet instead of her chest..

I used to give calpol before bed if I thought she might need help to sleep. The plug-in atomisers with the calpol sachets in were best for us.

Friedbrain really??? How bizarre but I'm definitely up for trying.

The plug-ins will hopefully help my bunged up nose too.

You can get saline nasal spray/drops which helped unblock DDs nose, she's 3 months and just gotten over her first cold.

It works wonders

Smells like Vicks, it's lovely

The plug in is a fiver and you get five refills for a fiver too

Friedbrain · 05/05/2014 21:52
