Natural sleep remedies for 7yr old

Blackpuddingbertha · 01/05/2014 21:29

DD is having problems getting to sleep. Mostly this is anxiety related but also seems to be habit. She expects not to be able to get to sleep and therefore can't. We are trying to deal with the anxiety but the lack of sleep also makes the anxiety worse.

Does anyone have any suggestions for natural remedies for helping with sleep that are suitable for children? We need to break the cycle somehow.

My dd was diagnosed with PTSD recently which resulted in sleep problems.
She has been using a sleep app that plays the noise of flowing streams, waves on a beach etc.
it has really helped although she is 10 years old.

DD found newagey folky instrumental music helped.

Album called Celtic lounge, bits of it were the free tracks on her original Sony MP3 player so she must have been 8/9

My daughter has problems getting to sleep, I found giving her Vitamin D supplements help her have better quality sleep. Only found out about it as a non sleeping baby of a friend of mine was given Vitamin D for her and it really helped so think there could be something in it

Lavender oil- put a few drops on a tissue and tuck it I to her pillow case.

Thank you everyone. We've been giving her Vitamin D now for about a month or so, DH is low in vitamin D so we already knew the benefits of that one although we were looking at it for the anxiety more than the sleep.

We got a lavender gel from the chemist yesterday and we're trying that on her wrists. Music may certainly be an option, I'll speak to her about that idea.

Off to google Potters Nodoff mixture Smile

My 41/2 year has trouble sleeping. I bought a 'Relax Kids' relaxation CD to help him relax and listen to at bedtimes. See website relaxkids.com for different ones (although I got mine from Amazon).

Upandatem - it's a genalised anxiety with many triggers and a few key ones. We don't unfortunately know the answer to your question Sad. She is seeing a therapist as it's starting to limit what she does. I think though she'd be able to start controlling the anxiety more if she was able to get a decent amount of sleep. The two things are so closely linked though it's difficult to resolve one without the other.

We have this with our son

We have tried everything - quite literally it feels like

After 10 years we finally found what works for him:

  1. Get a blanket
  2. Place it flat on the floor ontop of carpet or rug
  3. Have son take bath or shower, pyjamas on, brush teeth
  4. Come out to where blanket is
  5. Son lays parallel blanket
  6. Adult rolls son up in blanket like a sausage - head out top for breathing
  7. When all wrapped up firstly push down all over body (if they like that)
  8. Slowly unroll along floor until blanket back to bring flat
  9. Repeat 3 times
10. Get a tennis ball and roll all over back of legs arms and back whilst son is lying on blanket after being unrolled 11. Give big hug 12. Off to bed

And use this

Doterra Balance Oil - expensive but it's changed his anxiety levels in a way that I thought was never possible

LadyCybilCrawley · 03/05/2014 21:56

Clearly I can't link on cell phone

Trying again ...

LadyCybilCrawley · 05/05/2014 01:36

Hey BlackPuddingBertha - how was it last night ? Any of these suggestions helped ?

Blackpuddingbertha · 05/05/2014 08:27

Last two nights have been better. We've been using the lavender gel stuff, but last night she refused to put it on saying that she wanted a long time to read. She fell asleep in her book 15 minutes later Grin

Still want to look at some of the music options

Thank you so much for this thread. I bought some lavender oil and have been sprinkling it on DD1's pillow. Has worked wonders!

Blackpuddingbertha · 06/05/2014 21:40
