Hi all,
I hope someone can help as going out of my mind with worry.
My son had a craniomothy 3 years ago after a having a subdural heamorrage.
He recovered well and there have been no problems since.
He is nearly 4 now and 5 weeks ago jumped up to give my husband a hug and crashed into his chin with the top of his head.
Thought nothing of it, son wasn't upset and we went off to a theme park for the day but that night when we washed his hair found a lump ( rock hard ) about the size of a 50p.
It's been going down slowly but 5 weeks on is still there, say the size of a 5p.
It's so hard it feels like bone rather than a swelling.
I saw the doctor last week who wasn't concerned in the slightest, probably hameatoma and nothing to worry about.
So I took that and went home however last night was feeling the bump again and as I moved my hand down I felt a ridge just above the ear, If you push quite hard it almost feels like there's a dent between the skull bone ( which from my research is impossible )
None of this is causing any pain to him and I've never noticed it before however never been looking this in depth so I'm not sure if this is a dent from the surgery or if this bump I foun weeks ago wasn't actually from this clash at all and they are both linked in some way but I have no idea what way?
Doctor not in until Tuesday, very confused,
Can anyone shed any light?

I'll start by saying I'm nor medically trained at all. I would have thought that your Ds is unlikely to have done much damage as your DHs chin would have moved when hit - not like if you, say, stand under an open cupboard door.

Thanks for the reply
No it wasn't a massive bang although my husband was Suttons down at the time and my son ran and jumped into his lap to give him a hug so was kind of under the chin however he was absolutely fine after however oh was obviously enough to cause this bump that won't go :(

Hi. I'm not a doctor but do not think there will have been any damage caused by this at all. If your son wasn't knocked out or vomited after it then it is highly unlikely to be a serious injury. Also skulls are very bumpy and it may just be that you haven't ever examined him before and that what you are feeling is normal for him. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about, he sounds fine.

There is a natural ridge just above and behind the ear. If you feel your head you should find it. 3 years on from surgery, a craniotomy will be completely enmeshed, so it's highly unlikely to be bone. A haematoma can take weeks and weeks to dissipate, especially if the area isn't very fleshy, because there is less tissue to absorb the blood.

Thankyou for the further replies.
The bump on the front does seem like its slowly going down however we are now on week 5 and it's still there :(
As I said the doctor wasn't at all concerned and he was his normal self since and thereafter.
This ridge I'm referring to is on the left side, just beside the ear and does feel different to the other side ( the left was where he had the surgery hence me making the link )
It doesn't feel like a dent as such, you really have to search for it but if you push quite hard it almost feels like a line bwtwen 2 bits of bone rather than just one piece if that makes any sense? It's not the type of dent you can put your finger into and it doesn't feel soft underneath etc it just seems to " dip " slightly which from researching it points to where the craniomothy site was?
I wish I knew exactly where it was as would ease my mind
