Chicken pox tips

I feel terrible for DD (20 months) - she is covered from head to toe in chicken pox. Really really lots of spots, including in her mouth, her hair, her bottom. So far we do:

  • Piriton twice a day
  • Calpol every now and then
  • Morning and evening bath with oats
  • Calamine lotion
  • Lots of Peppa Pig and eating what she feels like (not much)

Anything else we can do? Especially to make nights comfortable for her? And how long will it last? The spots are now blistery.

TIAThanksThanks

Top tip, which I read about here is to put oats in a pop sock and soak them in the bath. The oat milk makes the spots less itchy. I've done this a couple of times and it has worked really well. Don't let the oats go down the drain!

ds2 had the pox around 7 mos, was too young for anything really other than calpol.

Lukewarm baths with bicarbonate of soda and /or oats in an old sock helps the skin. In the end I also shelled out for virasoothe which seemed to help a lot.

I think the advice is now to avoid calamine lotion and also ibuprofen. (can't remember the reasons why)

IIRC ours lasted around 10 days from first spot to all clear.

Small paddling pool in the kitchen fill with warm oaty water and top up when getting cool, fill with plastic cups, toys, boats. Mine all loved this when poxy same as the bath but so much more exciting :)

No ibuprofen.... That's all I know...

Thank you very much. Have sent DH to get virasoothe and there will be lots more bathing.

So tricky as I had DS one week ago and can't lift/carry DD due to c-section, so lots of changes for her right now.
