Small dotted rash

My 9 month DS has a small dotted rash, mostly on his neck but the odd dot here and there elsewhere. What can that be? Doesn't seem to cause him any discomfort. ...

Is he teething? Both mine occasionally used to her dribbly and where it got in the creases on the neck there would be a rash.

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/04/2014 07:07

Of course it could also be viral? Has be had a temp at all in the last week?

Or maybe some eczema

dodi1978 · 28/04/2014 07:13

Don't think teething... he is not very dribbly and it is also on his back.

No temperature, or at least not that I know... he was happy and chipper al of last week, so I wouldn't have thought to measure.
I think it's not something I will have to go to the doctor with immediately, but if it's still there end of the week.... Currently using E 45....

That's pretty much all you can do, keep him moisturised. If he seems ok in himself I doubt it's anything to worry about, dd was a very rashy child. Clothes rubbed-rash
Bit hot-rash, sniffle-rash

She has eczema though.

Maybe out clothes on an extra rinse when you wash then just incase the detergent could be irritating him slightly

Ooh, my DH has this too 7mo.

It's all round his neck and on his front and his back (not on arm or legs or bum or anything though.

He is teething though and had a temperature on Thursday and Friday, but I assumed that was due to his teeth, they're literally right there.

I use Aveeno cream. It's expensive but obviously free on prescription. It's just a moisturiser but it's made from oats if that helps.

DS not DH

My ds got and still gets this now aged 10 and is like tiny red dots- it comes out when the weather is warmer and seems to be some kind of sweat/sun rash not itchy or uncomfortable and seems to rebalance as the summer develops....

My DS's looks like this (excuse the bed hair)

Small dotted rash
LotsaTuddles · 28/04/2014 07:38

Ok you can't really see it in that picture sorry

dodi1978 · 28/04/2014 08:29

Thanks for your answers! I have actually just made an appointment at the docs... every time I look at him this morning dots seem to appear elsewhere. ... under his armpits is really bad!

The plot thickens... doctor said it is a viral rash. Little one has got a fever, so advised to keep on E45ing him, give calpol and keep layers off.

When I called nursery, they said that there had been an outbreak of chicken pox in his room! Looking at pictures on the web, his spots don't look dissimilar to the ones from chickenpox. He also has real problems settling and sleeping.

I've booked a phone consultation with the same doc who saw us this morning, but that won't be until later today...

It's important to figure out what he has got... with a viral rash he can go back to nursery once the fever is down. With chicken pox he has to stay out for a considerable period of time...

Ds got viral rashes, sometimes they came out so quickly you could watch them appearing. But for him they were under the skin, and non-fading, so it was a blood test at A&E response on several occasions until we'd worked out that he did this.
Chicken pox should fairly quickly go into the blister stage, the viral spots for ds never did that.
