2.7 year old with cradle cap - should I try to get rid of it?

DS has always had cradle cap. I half-heartedly tried a few things when he was a baby but he's always had thick hair so it wasnt noticeable unless you look closely.

Over the years it's cleared up a lot but the other day I noticed there's still a small amount (again, well hidden under his hair).

Should I try to get rid of it? It doesnt irritate him in any way and really isnt visible.

I eventually cracked and got some of the cradle cap shampoo (Dentinox) for DD as it irritated me. It went pretty quickly after that.

I cleared up my DD cradle cap by using a soft baby brush and 'exfoliating' the area...lathered up her hair with baby shampoo and moved the brush in soft circular movements each night in the bath and it seemed to work a treat!! She was only little when I did it, and won't have had as much hair as I imagine your DS had now!! Just wanted to suggest it. Good luck!!

Ds1 is the same age. We use a small amount of Head and Shoulders, works a treat. Can't remember if it was the GP or the HV who told us.

My ds still gets it the odd time dentinox shampoo does the trick x

My 5yo and 2yo still get it. The NHS page says there is no need to do anything so just try to use gentle/moisturizing shampoo/conditioner.

DD is the same age and has it pretty badly. Dentinox doesn't seem to do much, but I think it needs repeat washes and she hates having her hair washed so much that we can only bring ourselves to do it once a week. I'd love to get rid of it properly though.

I have a teen who still gets patches.
He has SN so I am still in charge of hairwashing(!) - I out some conditioner on and comb it through with a nit comb before rinsing out. It seems to lift most patches.

I might try some of these ideas - thanks

Ds has it really badly, he is nearly 4 and has really thick hair, with great big clumpy patches of cradle cap. He has sn and it is a real struggle to wash his hair, dentinox has done nothing, combing doesn't seem to help, and is a real battle. I might try the head and shoulders, but worry about it going in his eyes. Any other recommendations?

Tried olive oil, dentinox, adult shampoo but the only thing that worked was coconut oil. Its solid so you have to slather it on. We left it for 15 mins then washed out, leaves the hair greasy for a few days but the cradle cap literally fell out.

We used T-gel sensitive scalp shampoo daily for about a week, massaging the scalp and then combing the loose flakes out when dry. Also olive oil about 2-3 hours before bedtime.

marmitemonkey did you have to repeat the coconut oil or did you do it just the once?
