Really tired 8 year old, just developed tic, milk protein allergy

My son has always had a tendency to get tired and really needs to have his sleep at the end of the day.
He goes through phases where he almost can't do anything when he gets home from school as he is very tired and grumpy.
he had a virus several weeks ago, and stayed very tired and irritable after the virus. When I gave him some iron he seem a lot better, but a week later developed a fairly significant tic (sucking his tummy in, lifting his shoulders).
I am not sure if it was because he had been tired and stressed at school, whether stress causes his tiredness or whether he is just one of those kids who can't do as much.
He does try very hard at school, is always well behaved there.
I just want him to be able to do everything his friends do.
I took him to the GP who wasn't particularly concerned.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Could it be diet related? (he has been tested for coeliac which came back negative but diagnosed with milk protein allergy)

hi, I just wondered, has removing the milk caused any improvement? and does he get any digestive or any other symptoms with gluten/wheat?

I just wondered as tics can be a result of food intolerance - however a milder gluten intolerance will not show up on a coeliac test. The test is not that sensitive.

Also other foods can be implemented in tics such as salicylates, MSG, chemical additives, food colourings etc so you may want to be vigilant on those.

Removing food intolerances should improve energy levels also, as the body is doing less work to fight them.

You may want to see a nutritional therapist to help you with all this.
Here's an interesting article on tics

good luck with it all
