Need some advice on glue ear

Dd had glue ear when she was 3/4 , got grommets fitted just as she turned 5 and they came out when she was 7 .

She is 9 now (well next weekGrin) and I've noticed a dip in her hearing again and her ears are very waxy . On Thursday night she was at the McBusted concert , and on Friday there was wax practically pouring out her ear , I've never seen so much earwax in my life !

Do you think if her ears are mucousy again that the concert could have aggravated it ? She was complaining that her head/back of her mouth was sore last week I thought maybe she was getting a new molar but I'm now wondering if it was actually coming from her ear .

Poor thing. I hope the oozing has settled a little and she isn't too upset by it. I don't have any advice but found your post whilst researching glue ear as I'm worried my Ds (3.5) may have it. He's had a long bout of the snorts and is on antibiotics now but seems to have developed selective hearing and asks me to repeat everything. Do you mind me asking how your dd got diagnosed/how you noticed something was different?

Snots! Not snorts though he can be a pig at the dinner table

DDs hearing was just really obviously bad . She would do things like turn the tv up really loud , ask me to repeat things , mishear a lot , also when I was speaking she would pull my face towards her and look right into it and get very frustrated . I noticed a big difference in her behaviour and mood once the grommets were fitted she had obviously been very frustrated not being able to hear properly .

I took her to my gp who referred her to ENT who then did a series of hearing tests . They do them every 3 months for a year and if they get consistently low results they will go ahead with the op to insert grommets . After that they go for another hearing test to see if they worked .

I should probably point out I had glue ear myself as a should so I knew what to look out for and my mum told me she was reminding her of me .

Dd luckily didn't get the awful ear infections I got thanks to my glue ear . Hope your ds doesn't get them they are horrible .

My advice is take him to the gp and tell them you are concerned about his hearing could you get a referral to ENT . Nip it in the bud now before he goes to school and can't hear his teacher .

Pain last week then oozing sounds like perforated ear drum possibly aggravated by the loud music. so all that gunk was sitting in the tube and the music set it free. She'll probably feel much better now.

so no, concert didn't cause it. Muck was already there. is she still under ENT

disclaimer - not a dr, just far too experienced with dc ear infections and glue ear.

Ah mellow perforated eardrum makes sense! Last week when she was in pain I tried to get her a dr appointment but by the time I actually got one she was a lot better so I cancelled it . I think I'll try and get her one for this week I might ask for a referral back to ENT and get her a hearing test again .
