My DD (7) had a nasty fall & ended up with a deep cut the length of her labia. We had a night in hospital & surgery by the gynae team to repair stuff. DD is complaining it itches, I've tried soothing lavender baths etc, Calpol makes no difference. Anyone dealt with this before & got any ideas?? TIA

I've always thought that itching means it's healing. Could be completely wrong though.
You can get anti itching creams from pharmacies, so maybe talk to a pharmacist tomorrow? (To check it's the right thing to do in this situation)
For immediate relief can you fill a hot water bottle with very cold water and she applies it where it itches?

I'd also check the area is healing well, isn't hot or inflamed and that she otherwise feels well in herself.

oh your poor dd. Homoeopathic hypercal tincture is really good for healing wounds, you dilute it, a couple of drops in a small bowl of boiled cooled water and drizzle it over the scar, it does seem to speed things up and sooth the cut.

You don't want to put anti itch on broken skin (or private parts)! It's for allergies etc. What about ice cubes/frozen peas? Poor mite...:(

Why not check it out with out of hours doc, see what they suggest? It must be really uncomfortable for her. Did the hospital provide you with an after care number should you have concerns?

How about a dose of piriton. Might stop the itch and help her sleep tonight

Sometimes simply scratching close to the area (obviously being very careful not to touch the wound) that's healing can bring relief and does not affect the healing process.

Also, I know some people swear by baking soda baths. I am not sure if this is suitable after surgery, but it may be worth looking into.
