Ds (4) not recovering well after cast removal

He fractured his leg (tib) and the cast was on for just under four weeks. It was removed about 3 weeks ago and we were told he would be back to normal within 2 days. He wasn't but a bit of research on here and elsewhere told me this was normal. However, he is still limping now. He is willing to walk, doesn't want the pushchair anymore (he had initially enjoyed reverting to this!) but has no stamina and, as I said, a noticeable limp most, but not all, of the time.

I phoned the fracture clinic this morning and we now have an appointment for next Wednesday. However, I am worried that his continuing to walk on it may be causing more damage and am therefore wondering whether I shouldn't take him to A&E. Of course, I don't want to do this needlessly, for his sake, and because I don't want to waste their time, but I am feeling increasingly uneasy seeing him hobbling around with his foot turned out.

I would love some advice from amyone with any knowledge on this - basically, are we likely to be causing more damage to his leg?

MY 6 year old recently broke his foot, his cast came off the 24th March it's still not 100%, the weather affects it too with pain if its cold.

If you are worried i would trust your intuition and take him somewhere, maybe a drop in clinic rather than A&E.

He needs another xray sooner rather than later

It will be the muscle wastage. DD1 had a small fracture and casted for 4 weeks. They removed her cat, she couldn't weight bear so it was recast for a further week. Once out of the cast she hobbled with her leg out-turned for weeks and weeks. It was simply that her muscles which keep the leg straight had wasted and needed to build back up.
