hi

ive googled and tried to find ideas and can't find much. other than one helpful blog that said, er, let them watch tv Hmm

please tell me what you do. ESPECIALLY things to stop scratching in the day. this isn't a problem at night for us, its during the day, and mainly on the school run when dd is in her car seat and i'm driving, and i can't do anything about it Sad.

i really really need to stop the scratching because the skin hasn't had a chance to heal because dd is attacking her legs so much Sad

Medical treatment?

shes seen a dermatologist twice and the gp is considering referring her back. she has millions of creams, and steroid creams too. but none of those prevent her scratching (even the cooling creams dont stop it for long), and while shes scratching so much they are pretty ineffective because they dont get a chance to work before she scratches and makes it a whole lot worse.

what i'm looking for now is ways to manage it that are non medical. such as things ive tried so far like giving her something to play with her hands with, singing action songs, etc. would love other ideas!

i bought some scratch sleeves which came in teh post today, i spoke to the lady who makes them and she said they shouild hopefully do the trick for the car journeys. dd is very excited about her new special gloves so i'm hoping that this works. yesterday we didn't go anywhere by car and spent the day in the garden, and her skin with just 24 hours of almost no scratching is a millions times better.

You need to just keep going back to dermatologists until they find something that works.

If staying in the garden helps then it must be an environmental thing - she is irritated by something in the car. Perhaps give it a steam clean with just water?

Was going to recommend scratch sleeves lol

Some types of eczema are more itchy than others, and some children scratch more when they are bored

Dd was terrible when watching tv or sitting in the car -tv we could stop, car journeys were pretty essential

I found using a physical barrier -tights, scratch sleeves etc were effective
We also used an antihistamine to reduce the itch

Being in the garden you may find it was the sun that made a difference
