10yo dd1 with UTI symptoms but test is cleat (dr sid no uti)

On sat I took dd1 to A&E as she was crying in pain, needing the loo and then not being able to go, she has some tummy pains but no high temp and not really poorly. They tested a water sample and all was clear, we were told it was probably due to constipation (which she does suffer from) and told to give her more fibre.

It is now Tuesday and she is now more regular but she's still spending a lot of time on the loo (every 20 minutes) which isn't like her.

I'm not sure if going to the toilet has become an obsession (she has Aspergers and does obsess about little things), when we go anywhere she has to know where the nearest loo is and how long until we get there, she's getting quite upset about it which I think could be making her want to go even more.

So is it in her head or is there something wrong? and if so what could it be other than a uti?

Could it be hormones as she hits puberty? Ovulation pains or similar which she doesn't have the experience to understand yet?

Its possible, do they start getting the pains a while before their periods start? I think she's quite behind for her age, she's quite small but is budding breasts (but no other signs).

Sounds like it could be mild cystitis (bladder irritation) rather than an actual UTI (bacteria in urine).

Has she been drinking lots of fruit juice or something particularly acidic? There's a myth that cranberry juice helps to cure cystitis. If there's no bacteria present it can actually make it worse.

Plenty of fluids (plain water - and if it is constipation it'll help that too) for 24 hours, and back to the doctors if symptoms persist.

She drinks quite a lot and I have been pushing extra into her, I think I will take her to the GP tomorrow as she is getting quite upset about it and it is effecting the school holidays (not being able to go far).

Going to the gp in a minute as she's been peeing every few minutes and is getting very upset. Will see if they can find anything wrong.

I hope you both got on OK at the GP and that your DD is on the mend soon.

How did you get on op?

They tested her sample again and it showed nothing (no sign of infection), they have sent the sample off to the lab but nurse said she should be fine. We will see how she gets on. It has put her mind at rest a bit which seems to have helped.
