Steroid inhaler, facial rash anybody else had this?

dd was started on seretide about 6 weeks ago, she uses as aerochamber with mask. I noticed spots coming up on her face but assumed it was her age(12). It kept getting worse and I suddenly clicked that it matched the shape of the mask so on Friday switched her to one of her old aerochambers with a mouthpiece and within 24 hours the rash had significantly improved and now has almost vanished. She was fine with the clenil inhaler so am guessing that it is something in the seretide that is causing the problem, am going to ring gps on morning but wondering if anyone else has had this problem

Was it the first time she had used the aerochamber with mask? Could it be an allergy to something in the mask?

DS gets this, but his happens when he has had a lot of ventolin then stops taking it (which is never at the moment!)
It always clears up after a few days

She'd been using the mask for a long a while with clenil, it's only started with the seretide which is making me think in the inhaler. Had a look online and it can happen, they recommend washing the face and mask after each use soI'll try that for a couple of days and see what happens. Using the mouthpiece spacer doesn't seem to have affected her control.

If she can manage a mouthpiece why have they given you an aero chamber with mask?

She was using a mouthpiece from the gp but last september her asthma suddenly deteriorated resulting in a 4 day stay in hospital. The consultant changed her to the mask as he felt it gave better dosage. things didn't improve with many acute exacerbations and only improved in feb when gp changed her seretide. I've been reluctant to change her back to the mouthpiece as I wanted to keep things under control but she does seem to be managing with it now although will keep using mask for acute attacks. She'll be seeing asthma nurse in may and will discussing this with her

Good idea to discuss it with nurse. Maybe take both with you so she can look at technique. Generally mouthpieces give a much better dose to the lung unless technique or lip seal around mouthpiece is bad.

If using a mouthpiece she should rinse her mouth out afterward and if using the mask should rinse her mouth out and wash her face afterwards. This reduces the chance of side effects.
