scar on daughter's forehead...should have been stitched and not glued!

Hi there

I suppose im just hoping (optimistically) for some reassurance...?

My 4 year old daughter split her forehead open at preschool back in December. I took her to a and e when a nurse practitioner glued it bk together, said to leave the buterfky stitches on for 3-4 days and that it wouldn't scar.

I left stitches on on for over a week. Anyway, 4 months on and it definitely has scarred, bless her. And its riht in the middle of her forehead. The scar is also quite wide and not in a neat line its like its spread open. Its still quite red and noticeable.

I just wonder if anyone else has had this with their little ones and can reassure me that it will fade and lighten in time. As at the moment Im just wishing id insisted on it being stitched by a doctor!

One guilt ridden mother.

Thanks.

After lots of research I got dermalmd scar treatment serum and very impressed with the results so far. My toddler fell and had five stitches across the bridge of her nose. After 1-2 months of use scar serum, her scar is smooth and almost invisible.

My seven-year-old daughter had 9 stitches above her eye. We apply dermalmd scar serum every night and I swear it looks better every morning. I am so impressed with how well dermalmd works. I am forever grateful to dermalmd for reducing the scar on my daughter's face.

Anyone got any mote updates on thwir scars? My son has just had head glued and im panicking xx

Glued and steristripped wounds heal better than stitches but they need to be cleaned very deeply with all the blood clot being removed and literally scraped away to leave two totally clear raw edges. If the clot isnt removed then that clot pushes open the wound edges and makes for a wider scar. This probably did happen, as its pretty brutal to clean the wound with a distressed small child, screaming and not wanting the wound cleaned. It should heal in the end though as she grows.

I still regularly get messages from worried mum’s about forehead scars, so thought this picture might help and shows how it’s barely noticeable now!

DD cut her forehead open aged 5 and ended up with a gash across the middle of it. The first photo shows the scar after a few months. On the second, I've had to circle the area where the scar is as it's only really visible to me and to her which is extra impressive given how freckly she is! There's six years between the photos and the only 'treatment' we've applied to the scar is BioOil for a few months but always made sure DD wears sunscreen and a hat/visor in the sun.

In the immediate aftermath of the accident and the glueing of the wound, I was worried she'd end up with a lumpy, angry looking scar across her forehead but that's not happened. In fact, even in situations when her skin has been looked at quite carefully (she's done a couple of TV adverts) most people don't notice the scar.

My one year old fell and got stitches on her forehead. It looked like it opened. Went back to the doctor and they said it’s fine. Took the stitches out and the wound was open! They used steri strips to close it. It’s wide and red and right in the middle of her forehead. I feel so guilty. I ruined her beautiful face. I am so made that the doctors didn’t listen to me when I told them I feel it wasn’t healing properly. I hate the scar!

How did your child end up healing 10 years later?

Marianvday · 17/06/2025 04:34

@Missmagnum Hi. Has the gash been glued already on the first photo? My daughter just had the same injury last month and it looks red and wide right now. 😢

parisa1364 · 05/12/2025 09:45

my son has the same laceration and got 12 stitches
how does your daughters scar look like now?
i'm very worried

Marianvday · 05/12/2025 13:48

@parisa1364 It’s been 7 months since her injury and it’s still pink. Not as red anymore but it’s still obvious. 😢 I’m really hoping it will blend into her skin soon.
