DD in hospital, v. worried

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 13/04/2014 11:30

She went in yesterday after waking with severe abdominal pain at 6am, she was sick whenever she tried to walk or stand.
She had this before about a month ago but we put it down to a stomach bug
At first they though it was appendicitis, but then by yesterday afternoon the doctor seemed to have discounted that.
The pain is still as bad this morning and she's just gone to theatre
They are going to 'have a look' as they now suspect appendicitis again or maybe a twisted ovary
Am imagining all sorts of horrible things. I am at home and DH has just left the hospital. We will both go back this afternoon but we're not sure how long the op will take, depends what they find!
DD is 16, I am so worried

Oh 2 hours must feel like 2 days when you're waiting. I hope you get good news soon. x

hellsbells99 · 13/04/2014 14:04

Youvecat - DD1 was like this when she was 14. Was in hospital a few days. Eventually operated & it was appendicitis. Op took about 3 hours as it had perforated on 1 side so she needed to be 'cleaned out'. She was absolutely fine but recovery took longer than standard due to length of op etc. Hope everything is ok.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 13/04/2014 14:07

oh that makes me feel a bit better about how long its taking hellsbells thankyou

Hand holding OP, she is in the best place x

I'd also taken her to the GPs 3 or 4 times over the previous 6 weeks and she was generally unwell - headaches, feeling sick etc. They had done blood and urine tests and given her antibiotics for non-specific infection. The surgeon said to me afterwards that her appendix was a mess and she had obviously been unwell for a few weeks!

Hopefully your DD has similar and will be fine Thanks

ExitPursuedByABear · 13/04/2014 14:22

Poor you. And your poor dd. what a worry.

uggmum · 13/04/2014 14:23

My dd was admitted to hospital with similar symptoms.
They thought it was her appendix.

They operated and removed it. When they showed me the photos of the op they said her appendix looked ok but there was a lot of free fluid in her abdomen which shouldn't have been there. They removed that too.

This did resolve it and the pain disappeared.

Hope your dd is ok.

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 14:25

Oh bless her. All the best for your DD OP. Flowers

am going to visit her in a bit.
thank you all for your good wishes

Yourcat - so so glad all is ok. Get well soon to DD.

hellsbells99 · 13/04/2014 14:43

Glad that she is fine. Tell her not to rush her recovery - lots of TLC and good food!

hellsbells99 · 13/04/2014 14:44

....they also told me that once they've opened them up they will take their appendix out anyway - to make sure that no one sees the scar in the future and assumes they've had their appendix out when they haven't!

NearTheWindymill · 13/04/2014 14:44

Phew what a relief. Lots of TLC now. GCSE's next month?

Bunbaker · 13/04/2014 14:46
