advice on temperature/vomiting 8 month old - anyone around?

Hi there - in on my own tonight and a bit worried. My little boy (8months) went to bed at 7 after throwing up his tea from 5.00pm and his bottle from five minutes earlier. He has been a bit quiet and sleepy all day but has eaten ok and took 7 ounces of milk. He has been a bit warm durign the day so I gave him some Calpol just before he vomited. I've checked on him several times since then and he is getting warmer - he is now 37.8. He is asleep and I'm dithering about whether to wake him and give him some calpol or leave him to sleep?

In case it's not obvious, he is my pfb so I'm not too experienced in these things. Also, when he was a few months he had a uti that was signalled by a temeprature and we ended up being admitted to the children's ward so I am panicking a bit. I have had some sort of virus during the week that started with me vomiting so wonder if he has that?

I always let DD sleep as I figured she needed the rest - 37.8 doesn't sound too bad though I'd maybe open the window and not have too many layers on him. If he continue's being sick though I'd take him to A&E as they can get dehydrated easily at this age.

DD had UTI at 18 months and febrile convulsion, so appreciate how worried you must be and she ended up on a drip (after catching d&v bug in hospital ward) so if he keeps being sick either call NHS direct or go straight to A&E (as NHS direct always told us to go straight there!).

Hope he's doing better soon.

thanks so much MyCat. I think I'll unzipper his gro bag a bit and check the room temperature. I'll be up checkign his temperature every hour tonight. He was 40+ with his uti so I'll try not to panic too soon about 37.8 and just see if it goes down. I did think about calling nhs direct but they have never been very useful in the past. thanks again.

Hope he's feeling better soon and you get some rest as well tonight.

please DO NOT open the window.

Leave his growbag done up too.

37.8 is ok for now

Dear OP,
Unless he is obviously uncomfortable with his temperature then there is no need to give him any paracetamol. Latest NICE guidelines advise against using it to control temperature in children and there is no evidence that it prevents febrile convulsions. Temperature is normally higher in early evening so 37.8 is not too much to worry about. Let him take milk/ water as he is able and keep an eye on him. If you are ever really worried however follow your instincts and call the OOH GP or NHS 111.

It sounds likely he's caught your bug. Keep an eye on him but he sounds ok at the moment.

Hope your baby is better
