Puzzled - is ds all right?

7yo ds has been groaning and miserable from a stitch in his side for nearly an hour and a half now. We've tried all sorts of things, including ignoring and distraction, but nothing seems to help.

Is there anything else it could be? Should I be worried? He doesn't have a temp or feel nauseous.

I would be worried about appendicitis. How did he get the stitch? Was he running really fast? A stitch doesn't just appear out of nowhere.

Which side?

SixImpossible · 11/04/2014 12:17

It's high on his left.

I thought maybe trapped wind, though its a bit high for that, but none of our usual trapped-wind strategies worked. He is prone to trapped wind.

I've sent him to have a warm shower, purely on the basis that water helped ease my labour pains with him!

AFAIK he wasn't running around. It seems like a stitch, hurts all the time but worse when he breathes.

I was thinking appendicitis too

SixImpossible · 11/04/2014 12:34
Confused No nausea, no temperature, hungry.

He could have pulled one of the intercostal muscles, but I would get him checked to rule out the appendix.

ChildishRevolution · 11/04/2014 12:41

Isn't appendicitis more on the right side? Are his ribs alright..or his back?

AnyFucker · 11/04/2014 12:44

Appendicitis pain can be referred to either side

SixImpossible · 11/04/2014 12:51

He seems a little better. Still groaning and uncomfy, but having conversations.

He says that his only comfortable position is on elbows and knees (a bit like the knee-chest-uphill position for slowing down labour).

I would take into the walk-in centre, it really seems as though he needs to be seen to and as it's Friday now you won't be getting an appointment at the GP tomorrow.

constipation?

SixImpossible · 11/04/2014 21:57

He's fine now.

It started easing around 4pm, and at 6 when I went to call the dc for supper I found him bouncing on the trampoline!

This is the boy who a few years ago would go from 100% normal to 40C in 2h, and be back to 100% normal less than 24h later.

I guess he needed something more with which to bewilder me. At least this was less scarey.
