scarlet fever - really dry skin

DD2 got scarlet fever last week and is still not right. She has now completed the 7 days of antibiotics but is really struggling with her skin. It is incredibly dry, particularly on her face and scalp. It is definitely scarlet fever related. I have been putting aqueous cream on it but it is not helping. Does anyone have any better idea? I want to put something on it but something that is gentle as her skin is quite sore.

Thanks :)

I had a nasty infection a couple of weeks ago necessitating a course of antibiotics. My skin went really dry and flaky.

I exfoliated and used Aveeno moisturising creamy oil and my skin is almost back to normal. It is an excellent product.

Thanks Bunbaker. It may well be the antibiotics, that did not occur to me. I will have a look for the product. I have not heard of it, is it something you can pick up in tesco etc?

Sorry to hear to hear that you were unwell btw and thanks for replying Thanks

What about calendula oil? I use it on DD when she has dry skin.

After you've had a Strep A infection, the skin does usually start to peel - mostly on hands and feet though, I think. If that is what it is, leave it to fall off naturally, rather than peeling it off which will make it sore.

Aveeno is really good, you can get it in Boots, you can also get it on prescription.

I find Atrixo hand cream is also really good, my DS licks his lips and gets really red and sore round his mouth and this stuff learns it up really quickly.

My DS was exactly the same following scarlet fever - we're about a month on and its only just starting to improve. I've been bathing him as little as possible with Oilatum (liquid paraffin) in his bath and limiting them to 10 mins. He's a total cream refuser so at least the aqueous cream will help you dd too.

Thank you for the replies. Will check out both aveeno and calendula. Much appreciated.

Good point about oilatum foxy. I will do that too. Sorry to hear about your DS having scarlet fever too. It affected DD more than I initially realised tbh.
