Nits!

Posting in here as more traffic than general health!

I have caught them from the children at work. I have very thick hair, almost down to my waist although it's always tied up and now I have them!

None of the DC had any trace Thank goodness and neither did DP. Dd1 had to help me with the nit comb in my hair, we each did a side and swapped. It took over two hours and I had Atleast 30 live headlice. We combed till we found no more and will repeat daily! dd1 is thrilled Hmm.
There was also brown shells/ thin skins combing out, not egg shaped and definitely not lice. Anyone know what they were?

Anyone got any top tips on how to get rid? I'm thinking I might also need some form of chemical treatment to kill the eggs as dd1 thought she saw them near by scalp (although I also have dandruff and I don't think she would know the difference).

All tips appreciated!

We treated dd for this a few months ago. There are a lot of nit products. We got 2 different ones from
Sainsburys. Apparently it's best to change the product if having to use several times so the nits don't get used to the same one. Get a nitty gritty comb as they are amazing. They are metal and comb the nits and eggs out really well. If you cover your hair in the product and comb through with the comb it works a treat. Leave on overnight if you can and wash out in the morning and all the nits will fall out. You do have to repeat a week later as eggs can take a week to hatch so there can be more live ones a week later.
The brown bits may have been the skins or part of the sacs they came out of. These apparently change colour from being brown (ish) when nits are in them to White when the bits have come out!
It is a real pain but the treatment and combing does work. We have got some tea tree conditioner as apparently nits don't like this. I spray my DDs hair with this most mornings now to stop them getting in her hair as they spread so much at school!!
