22mnth old son not speaking/walking

Hi, I am looking for a bit of advice. My son who is 22mnth/ 23 months at the end of April is still not talking, to communicate with us he will make an 'eugh' sound (if that makes sense) to get our attention. He doesn't even say mum or dad. He is also still not walking which is also a great concern of ours.

we have seen our local G.P who referred us to a paediatrician who assessed him, we also have a hearing test this coming Tuesday to see if could be a hearing problem. we know that he can hear as he is responsive to his name most of the time and turn his head when his favourite programme is on. The paediatrician has also said she would like him to see a speech therapist before they do anymore assessments on him.

she did ask If we had though what it could be, we have thought that it could possibly be Autism but she did say that he showed signs that it might not possibly be that as he is affectionate towards me and my sister and he knew how to get down of the sofa correctly by turning around (not 100% sure why this was). When he is excited he rocks back and forth and claps his hands which was the biggest thing that made me think it could be autism. He also stares at our wallpaper and finds it really interesting, im not sure if its the contrast of black and white that he enjoys.

Being affectionate to family members does not rule out autism. But there is a better test the ADOS assessment.

Getting on or off sofa has nothing to do with autism...

For now tho get him properly assessed generally across all areas physical cognitive speecetc eg bayley scale of infant development etc.

Why isn't he walking ? Eg hypotonia floppy joints ?

Ask what is available to help eg specialist under five Playgroups etc.

You will be in forondo ds of assessments which is good..but keep asking .what can he access to help him improve ? What is available ? Get plugged into all local early intervention services and meet local parents going thru same thng for support

Thank you for your response, we are unsure as to why he isn't walking. she did say he had soft ankle bones and that it would be best for him to go for physiotherapy , he has not interest in walking he does not even attempt to try and walk. He can take a few steps on his own if we prop him against something i.e. the sofa, but we have to really encourage him to do it, but his balance is just not there.
