Superglued head wound at A&E. What happens to the glue?

DS had a wound in the back of his head glued at A&E 9 days ago.

We kept it dry for 5 days as recommended, since then he's had it wasjphed daily and has been swimming.

He really needs a hair cut but there is still loads of glue in his hair and around the wound.

Does it eventually disintegrate / drop out? How long should we expect it to take?

it flakes off, i wouldn't worry.
hope his head is all better soon!

Eventually, but we found it took an aaaaaaaaaaaage. Well over a fortnight.

Thanks.

There's masses of glue! I think they may have accidently put a few drops about an inch underneath the actual wound itself - that's just on his hair, nowhere near his scalp. Where the wound is, there are massive lumps of the stuff that still seem to be adhered to his scalp.

There's no way that a barber could comb around that area properly. He's going to have to get used to a more droopy looking hairdo for a while I think!

Same thing with my five yr old it finally came off however where the glue was its now a small bold patch and no hair has grown there for nearly three months Hmm however he's not bothered Smile

DD had her hair glued 2 years ago and has a bald patch.

3 weeks after my daughter had a glued head she had an EEG ( test with electrodes on her head) the nurse there put nail polish remover on cotton wool and took off the glue, there's no way it was ever going to just fall off.

May be worth asking practice nurse at GP surgery in a week or so if its still there

Actually, now I think about it, I think my son's only went when he had that hair cut. He does have a tiny bald patch but that's from the wound, not the glue. (And is covered by other hair in any case).

Clutterbugsmum · 04/04/2014 14:11

I think it took a good month for the glue to completely go from dd2 chin when she split it open.

Patilla · 04/04/2014 14:23

It took DS over a month for his to disappear I may have helped it around the edges once it was clearly healed

His was two years ago and now no visible signs of scar.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 04/04/2014 20:41

It might need a bit of helping on it's way I think.

We're going on holiday next weekend and he could really do with a haircut before we go. Some of the smaller bits could be trimmed out but there's some enormous blobs very close to his scalp that couldn't be cut out unless he had a grade 1/2 all over - and that's not going to happen!

I wish they'd just stitched it up!

My DS still has a large amount of glue on his head after 7 weeks! He has a surfy style haircut so you can't notice it but a bit concerned now after reading this thread. Doctor on Monday I think.

Scissors at the ready for us!
