Is this chickenpox?

My ds is 3 and has been ill with a fever and off his food etc for the last week. He also has a runny nose and cough. We went to the gp last week as I had trouble reducing his fever.

I noticed this morning this spot, not a great picture but there is a chickenpox outbreak at nursery.

Can you have chickenpox with just one spot?

Is this chickenpox?

Looks like it to me. Keep an eye out, more will probably come out. My eldest only got 6 spots the first time round. She wasn't particularly sick either, but she got it again a couple of years later.

Thanks for your opinions.

My eldest had only 3 spots when he had at age 2, my other son has never had it.

Apparently I had it bad as a child, and all 3 dcs breastfed to 2, so could they have some immunity?

My DD has just picked it up! She has about 20 spots.

We've both had it, but some of our elderly relatives have had shingles so we're trying to not go out socialising, or take DD out where there are other children.

Does anyone know if you can carry CP if you've had it? I'm meant to be going to a meeting on Thursday morning and one of my colleagues hasn't had CP. Still waiting to find out if anyone is prone to shingles.

u can't catch shingles from.chickenpox

Boris13 · 02/04/2014 15:44

shingles lay dormant in your body and can come out anytime, sometimes when you have another virus....

MrsCosmopilite · 02/04/2014 22:51

Thanks Boris

As it is, I've now found out that one of the people due to attend the meeting has a depressed immune system and would prefer it if I stayed home. So staying home I shall be!

Did you take your lo to the doctors for their cp? My little girl has it (10 months) and I wasn't planning on it just Calpol and calamine lotion but wanted to ask Grin

MrsCosmopilite · 09/04/2014 20:18

No, I didn't take her to the doctors. It was quite clear that's what she had, so we dosed her up with calpol etc. More spots kept coming up on the Wednesday and the Thursday.

As it turned out, she had a dreadful night on the Thursday and we ended up taking her to the out of hours doctor at the local hospital to get some antihistamine liquid. You may want to contact your GP to get some of this, it definitely helped reduce the itching - Piriton over the counter is age- specific, I think.

A week later she still has a few spots but they're definitely going.
