Non-existant little toe nail at birth, now at 4.5yo is just an odd little blob of nail

Does anyone on here know anything about this? DD3 didn't have a nail at all at first on her left-hand little toe.

It sort of grew after a few months, like a little tiny pearl at first, and now we basically have to cut it off when it gets too blobby and starts to catch on socks. It has never grown in the conventional way- it's more of a little sphere of nail iyswim. Is there any chance of this nail ever being "normal" do you think? Do we need to take her to see someone about it, and if so, what if anything can be done?

Us of the weirdy toenails are the chosen ones. Family trait for us along with little toes that are kind of tucked under/sideways. She is a lucky little girl. You can't join our club with money!

DH and I were wondering earlier what the evolutionary point was of toenails and decided it was an atavistic throwback to when feet did much the same as hands. It might actually be an advantage not to have them!

Fraggle - my little toes are sideways too

DS has one normal little toenail and one blob!

My little toenails are the same too - as are my dads. None of my children seem to have inherited them though. Nail varnish always annoys me!

I'm in Thr double toe nail brigade with Isla.

One is a proper toe nail, one a softer toenail that grows over/to the side of the real one but seems to have its own nail bed etc.

Sorry I should explain, I have that on both my little toes, so four little toe nails in total.

WoodBurnerBabe · 26/03/2014 22:27

My DS has one like this. And I have freaky feet as my second, third and fourth toes are all longer than my big toe. More like hands... I do get comments and it's hard to find comfy shoes!

DS has this, I cut it down (as in the height) from time to time.
