Smelly wee

My 3 month old ds has recently started having strong and unpleasant smelling wee. Is this anything to be concerned about? He has been a bit out of sorts today but doesn't seem ill.

Yes, almost certainly a urine infection, to the gp with thee

They will need a urine sample, ime this is a pain to get from a tiny one but of you get them snuggled on your lap sat ON a nappy and put a jar between your legs.

Sorry if the description is rubbish I know what I mean, baby supported in elbow. Do you get it at all!

What kind of smell???

Think doctors is a must... increase fluids maybe, is baby on cooled boiled water? If not time to start I think

Is your baby breastfed? If so - have you eaten anything strong? I swear I could smell garlic in dd's wee sometimes...

He's mix fed, about 2/3 expressed milk (couldn't bf) and 1/3 formula), I haven't eaten anything unusual.

I will be making a GP appointment on monday, I think possibly a UTI, but since I have no experience with babies I wasn't sure.

Boris It's hard to describe, quite an unpleasant smell though, a couple of times I've gone to change his nappy expecting a poo and he's just wet. I thought babies got all of the fluids they need from milk and water isn't recommended?

I suppose it can wait until Monday if it is a uti? He doesn't seem unwell, just not his usual happy self and he didn't have a temperature when I checked earlier because he felt warm to touch.

Didn't read properly. At 3 months old a baby doesn't need anything else apart from milk

Foul smelling wee can indicate a Uti or dehydration in a small baby.

Have you changed your nappies recently?
Randomly some types of nappies cause urine to smell once it enters the nappy!

I don't think he's dehydrated, he doesn't have symptoms of dehydration.

We haven't changed nappies, the only time we tried another brand he got nappy rash so we stick to the same ones now.
