Does anyone give their child Manuka Honey?

I am really impressed with what I have read about the health benefits of Manuka Honey and wondered if anyone else gave it to their children as a preventative therapy?

I have just started giving my son a teaspoon a day off a teaspoon. But it feels really wrong giving him something so sweet and I'm worried I could damage his teeth. I tried to put some in his milk but he refuses it, I assume as it tastes tainted. I know I could add it to his porridge and I'm sure he would readily take it, however I've been advised against adding it to hot things as it kills the enzymes - plus they recommend taking it an hour before food.

Any advise or do I just sound like a tree hugger?

Thanks

This is either true & unproven, true or mostly likely marketing twaddle.

A lot of manuka honey is made in the uk. Manuka trees were imported to kent I believe.

I use it for throat infections. But only the above 10 grade.

There's only one place outside of New Zealand that produces manuka and it's in Cornwall. They featured it on 'Food Unwrapped'

While you're about it, could you define "goodness"?

This was just found by googling, was on www.honeycentre.com - clearly it's not evidence but here you go anyway

.You can add Active Manuka to hot drinks such as tea and Coffee (unlike other honeys with hydrogen peroxide, which is easily destroyed by heat and light, Active Manuka still retains most of its anti bacterial properties, even after boiling or moderate dilution)

I think the honeys graded in strength. The stuff I have at home is 10+. But I've seen up to 26+ in shops.

I assumed the stronger it was the purer it was so the better for you? I hate the taste of honey. So can only manage 10.

Whether there's scientific evidence proving it or not I honestly believe it helps me with sore throats.

Purer? In what way?

Umm it is not all fake. Manuka honey must come from New Zealand. There are certain things on the bottle to confirm this. If you get it from a reliable place like natural grocers, that’s all they have. Two brands of manuka from New Zealand of different strengths, I used it to cure my four year old of cat scratch fever, but is is obviously great for a number of things.
