Another foreskin question - anyone with experience of 'foreskin release'?

My 3 year old DS has a hydrocele & has been referred for surgery for repair.

He has had several appointments with urologists re his hydrocele. One of the urologists he has seen said that he also has a tight foreskin and recommended that he should be circumcised (unrelated to the hydrocele btw - they just noticed his foreskin when examining him). When I asked if there was any alternative treatment he said no.

A second urologist agreed his foreskin was tight and suggested that he had a procedure called a 'release' whilst undergoing his hydrocele surgery. He described this procedure as stretching the foreskin & said there was no cutting involved. He said it would be best to do this procedure now so as to avoid another anaesthetic at a later date.

Having done some research since the first appointment I did mention to the second Dr that I thought it was normal for the foreskin not to retract at such a young age and the he agreed but said that it shouldn't be as tight as my sons.

I do not want to go ahead with the circumcision and am unsure about the release as my son has no problems with urinating, discomfort or infections etc. I am reluctant for him to have any unnecessary procedures & am worried about possible complications & about 'messing' with his penis when it seems to be working fine at the moment.

Has anyone had any experience with this? If your son has had the release procedure how was it? Alternatively has anyone any experience of non surgical treatments. or of deciding on no treatment at all?

Thanks for reading.

We thought my son may have a similar problem (also 3) problems weeing too but Doctor said to make sure was not a simple yeast infection. Clotrimazole (e.g. canesten) seems to be clearing it up. Make sure its not something sill before you are pushed for surgery.
