How long can it take for childrens baby teeth to fall out?

I'm just wondering really. DS1 is nearly 7. Back in August, he lost his first two teeth (bottom middle) within a fortnight of each other. Now 5 months later, and theres no sign of any other wobblers!

I'm not worried. It just seems like most of the children in his class are shedding teeth all over the place and he's just stopped...

My son will be 14 fairly soon and has a couple of tough malingerers. My daughter is 12 and has been baby tooth free for about 6 months.

fluffyanimal · 21/01/2014 15:19

DS1 is the same. He will be 8 in March. Last year and possibly before, he lost 6 of his baby incisors, but nothing else has started to go yet. By the time he loses any more he'll be too old to believe in the tooth fairy.

FWIW it is better to keep them as long as possible as they cover up the adult teeth which you only get one set of.

My DF was buried with half of his in.

He was 64 Smile

My DD has just lost her last incisor at 9.5. My DD was about the same. He is 12 now and still has only lost the front 8, no canines or molars looking remotely wobbly - when do these go? Both mine had their first teeth by 4 months so didn't teeth late.

A slight tangent, there's lots of fuss over the front ones but do the back ones come out with the same fuss? I only ever see children wobbling their front teeth.

DD1 has lost her bottom front teeth and a top one is wobbly. She's just turned 6.

steppemum · 21/01/2014 15:30

They keep falling out for ages. The back teeth fall out too, and ds is 11 and still has some to loose. His first one went when he was just 5

dd2 is just 6 and has just lost her first tooth. Some in her class (kids 6 months younger too) have lost all 4 front ones.

It varies!

exexpat · 21/01/2014 15:32

DD lost the first 8 between the ages of 7 (nearly 8) and 9. She's now 11 and hasn't yet lost any more, but I think one or two of the others are getting wobbly. It's a bit strange, as in other ways she is ahead of her age (very tall, already started periods etc) but teeth just don't seem to be in sync with that. Her brother was very similar.

Ds is almost 12. He has a few stubborn ones that are refusing to let go even though the adult teeth are pushing through.

Dentist has given it 6 months before he thinks it will be best to pull them.

bruffin · 21/01/2014 15:48

I cant remember exactly when but dd 16 was in her teens when she had one of her baby teeth removed. She also had a severly impacted molar that had to be removed under GA last year. She couldnt get her brace until she was a few weeks off 15 because all her adult teeth hadnt come.

Pregnantberry · 21/01/2014 15:56

My stepson is the same age and his haven't started yet. When he went to the dentist recently he didn't think it was anything to worry about, don't worry!

EeyoreIsh · 21/01/2014 15:58

33 and I had my last four removed last year Grin

If you're worried, the dentist should be able to do an x ray and check there are teeth in the right position behind the baby teeth.

SummerSevern · 21/01/2014 16:01

I remember losing my back tooth on the bus on the way home from school aged 16. I was terrified. I thought it was an adult tooth!

FortyFacedFuckers · 21/01/2014 16:09

My DS is 8 and has only lost the front 4 he lost them all within a couple of weeks at his 7th birthday and hasn't lost any since.

CPtart · 21/01/2014 16:19

DS11 only started losing teeth aged 8. He's now lost 9 but none the slightest bit wobbly.
My nephew was x rayed aged 9 as none of his bottom ones had come out or were wobbly, it showed he actually has no second teeth coming under the front two baby ones and will need quite a lot of work doing to close the gap when they do come out.

EarSlaps · 21/01/2014 21:38

I'm 34 and still have four, there was a nurse in our old practice who still had a couple past 60.

Everyone is different, they'll fall out when they fall out. The last one I lost was when I was 17. I still only have half of one wisdom tooth through. I am less dentally advanced than your average 15 year old!

BellaVita · 21/01/2014 21:43

DS2 is 14 and still has some baby teeth.
