Forward head position causing "hump"?

My 9 year old has terrible posture, naturally seems to fall into a forward head position and this is causing the beginnings of a noticeable "hump" and the top of his back. Anybody had any joy in correcting this? Have made an app with the GP but wondering does anyone know anything we could be doing in the meantime?

I have this now and I'm 28. They referred me to the physio who gave me back strengthening exercises and advice on posture etc. I may be wrong, but I think it is a case of prevention not cure.

Try Yoga. I can't recommend it enough. I have slight scoliosis which is an S shaped spine...Yoga has really helped me to realign. There are lots of kids Yoga classes available.

You need to go and see your GP. What you describe is kyphosis and is not only due to bad posture. It can be easily corrected if taken early, later it may require braces or a cast. So ask for a referral with an orthopedist for an evaluation. Your son will need physiotherapy to correct it. You need to see a doctor now. It's not his head falling down that causes the hump, but the contrary, it's the curve of his spine causing his head's inclination.
Yoga, swimming , etc.... may help but as an extra or later to maintain the correction

My older sister and I had congenital kyphosis. My sister was sent 5 months in a specialized hospital 4 hours from home, put in cast and tractions, and later a brace for 3 years. I was taken earlier and only had to endure a brace for 3 years. I was severely bullied at school because of it. My younger sister only had to do some physio.

Just re-read and you are already booked for a GP. That's good.
I wouldn't do anything meanwhile, other than reminding him to sit straight, shoulders back and down. Watch out especially when he is playing games on a device or reading a book with his spine doing a C and the head down.
