Help! Boy parts question

I feel a little bit silly asking about this, and would be grateful for any assistance.

I recently saw my 10 year old when he was getting changed and noticed that his willy has changed in appearance since I last saw it.

His foreskin seems to be much shorter how. It used to sort of hang down past the end, like other boys I've seen. Now quite a bit of the tip of his penis is visible, and the foreskin sort of forms a ring around it. I was quite shocked to see this, as I never pulled down his foreskin when he was growing up.

I asked him how long it had been like that and he said he didn't know!

Is it normal for the penis to change in this way, could there something wrong?

I'm a single mum and I'm not sure who else to ask about this.

Is his foreskin maybe too tight? I guess if he's not in any discomfort it's fine??

DH is like this. He's perfectly fine :)

There's nothing to worry about here. This happens naturally in a proportion of boys. where the foreskin fails to grow as the penis grows and it just shrinks further and further back revealing the glans. He is lucky that the opening at the end of the foreskin was wide enough to allow this. Had it not been so, his foreskin would have become tight, painful and impossible to retract and he would have to be circumcised. You will probably notice that, as with circumcised boys, his glans will be dry and lose it's deep colour and a little sensitivity from daily contact with underwear,

Given that your son is only ten and his foreskin is as far back as you describe, it is likely that by the time he is through puberty, his foreskin will have retreated and settled behind the rim of the glans and he will look circumcised. This is no bad thing as far as health and hygiene are concerned because it eliminates the place which harbours moisture and infection can occur if washing is neglected.

You might remind him to pull his foreskin as far back as it will go a wash the area still covered on a regular basis.
