I've always worked on the principal that NHS resources are scarce and if my child is offer something I take it.
Since moving abroad I've realised a boarder line/they don't need treatment, gromits in the case of my Ds and speech therapy for other Ds, iin another country turns into they need the treatment. Or an expression of great surprise they haven't had the treatment already.

Do it - there's probably a waiting list to go on and they won't finally decide until the adult teeth have erupted. So you won't have to make up your mind until he gets to the top of the waiting list. In our area it's about an 18 months waiting list.
My ds was borderline but I told him to decide as he could have it while he was young and entitled to NHS (free) or wait till he was older but then have to pay a couple of grand. Also it would probably be more painful or slower as he wasn't going to be growing as fast as when he was younger.
So he had them when he was 13 for about 18 months on both upper and lower teeth with 4 premolars needing to be extracted.
Teeth are fab now.

I'd say go for it. I was borderline as a child. My Mum decided not to bother as I said I didn't want a brace. I really wish I'd had one now. I hate my wonky teeth.

Get him the brace . 100% will be worth it and as pp said money in the nhs is tight so ortho would not recommend unless it is worth it .

Go for it ! I had a brace at 13 with 2 teeth removed before .
Cant't remember pain as such .but was a little bit achy and awkward for a while.

So glad my mum dragged me through those doors !!

Do it. My triplets all have braces and the difference less than a year down the line is already massive.
