I feel a bit guilty for not taking her to the gp but I'm not sure if there's anything they can give her. She has had a cough on and off since October ( seemed to get a bit better and then come back ), she seems to cough at night and in the mornings but rarely during the day,it's quite a loose cough but doesn't seem to be on her chest. Should I take her to the gp or do we just ride it out? She is almost 10 years old.

My dD does have dust mite allergy..she is often sniffly. If yours gets that too is worth testing for that.

She's not really snotty (just the cough), I am starting to wonder if it is because she has a fan on in her bedroom, I know its winter but it has become a part of her bed time routine (due to her having ASD) and she moans that she's too hot, I turn it off when I go to bed. Maybe I should try and persuade her not to put it on Smile.

Dd was a bronchiolitis baby, and once she was better she had a night time cough, caused by her laying flat. She would only settle in her car seat, and the HV told me she had an inappropriate sleep association.

I thought her sleep problems were my fault, so it took me well over 6 months to take her to the doctor. He immediately prescribed an inhaler, and it worked like magic. Dd was never diagnosed as being asthmatic, more as being a child who got wheezy with viral infections. She's now 10, and hasn't needed an inhaler for the past 4-5 years.

So needing an inhaler doesn't always equate to having asthma. But I know now that a persistent night time cough is something that should be discussed with the GP, and not to leave it as long as I did.

and not to mention that the gp will be guessing also as to whether or not its asthma. ....

Oh sorry I thought she was younger than that. ignore my senseless previous post.......
