DN has Scarlett fever. DD had sleepover with her Friday

They're both 3 and stayed at MILs Friday night- shared bath and bed.

SIL just text to say she's been up AnE with DN and it's scarlet fever. DNs symptoms only appeared yesterday. What are the chances that DD might have caught it?

I'm a rational, relaxed parent until it comes to proper illnesses so sorry if I sound paranoid over nothing Blush

Should add I have a 4 month old DS and I'm panicking slightly. Irrationally I know as it's treatable.

Scarlett Fever is one of those illnesses that used to be terrifying but is now considered pretty mild and easily treatable NHS info here

Thank you. All I really know of it is from The Velveteen Rabbit Blush

Dd2 had it at 3yo, and gave it to big sister. Neither of them was really ill with it at all. They think the illness has mutated since it was such a big killer back in the 1930s, and has become milder.
They do give antibiotics sometimes, but my girls didn't even have that.

It's very distinctive rash-looks like sandpaper. I had no doubt when dd2 bloomed what it was.

The main problem was they were raging round the house because they couldn't go out. Eventually I waited until early hours of the morning and took them out in wellies to stamp in puddles when there was no one else around.

It's perfectly treatable and nothing to be too concerned about BUT given you have a young baby in the house I would ring your GP and ask for somebody to call you asap to discuss liklihood of infection and steps to take. Poor neice/nephew too, bet she feels rotten.

Thanks everyone. DD seems fine so hopefully she won't get it. I'm going to drop off whilst standing on the doorstep miles away from the germs a comic and some sweets for my niece in a minute. By all accounts she's got a raging temp and a very sore mouth.
