Hello, I am interested in learning a little more about GOSH. Do you have any experience with the hospital?
I am doing the Great North Run in September and I'm considering raising money for Great Ormond Street as it sounds like a wonderful hospital but I'd love to hear some of your experiences with it?

My dd (now deceased) was a patient at GOSH & spent time in the PICU. A wonderful hospital & amazing staff. They do receive a lot of donations & sponsorship but I'm sure could always use more.

Children's hospices do amazing work not only for end of life care but for much needed respite & also support siblings of poorly children. I know they really really struggle to keep all their services going & rely heavily on donations.

Whizz kids is a great children's charity too.. It's very hard to choose because they are all so worthy

TSS - I'm very grateful for the calming influence they had on me after I'd been banging my head against a brick wall trying to get answers from my GP. I'm sure they'd seen it all before but I was a gibbering, crying, postnatal mess in there when we visited!
Don't know how old your DS is or if it's recent but I hope they cured the ulceration and he's ok now :)

My sister was treated in GOSH about 40 years ago. My niece is now being treated there for a very rare condition. Until they were seen at GOSH no one had any knowledge of her condition and we thought she would need to go to the States for surgery.

Thankyou all for your responses Smile
I think I am decided on GOSH due to the research side. I was tempted to donate to Sheffield children's hospital but it's the research and world renowned care that I'd love I support. I know they train a lot of paediatricians there too and paediatric nurses.

Thankyou TinyMrsCollins that is lovely Smile
Would it be appropriate to post the link to the fundraising on here when it comes closer to the time?
I think you can do it so it's definitely going to them so there'd be no worries about taking it or anything! Through "just giving" or something I think Smile

GOSH saved my husband's life when he was a baby. It was the third hospital he was sent to and the only one able to diagnose him. Thanks to his years of treatment there, he is now the oldest surviving person with his condition and is able to lead a normal life. We give them money regularly.

Vivi I meant the support group. I will have a look at Facebook. DD is fine now and has been a nose breather for 10 years.

another extremely grateful gosh mum here but agree they do get loads of donations

Tinymrscollings · 12/01/2014 21:51

PM me your link when you have it. I'm very superstitious about GOS and I do a donation every time a random opportunity arises. Premier Inn did a charity promotion with them at check in before Christmas. I travel a lot, they must have seen me coming Smile

Their immunology is both heart breaking and great. Heart breaking because we would start to recognise people and then they were not there. Grey because in Ds' area and others they have made breakthroughs.

Like others I thought we would have to go to the US. Fingers on one hand stuff.

So I too support them on every occasion I can, even though Ds under another inspiring hospital now.

Saved/Saving my cousins little boy, they are one of the most worth while charities you could raise money for as they not only care for london based children but kids from around the world! They try many new procedures and have capable surgeons to be able to make such things possible. They saved my cousins son's life when he had a stroke while on a Berlin Heart (mechanical heart) and the progress he has made has been incredible! You definitely won't struggle with sponsorship as it's a wonderful charity!

MamaPingu · 21/01/2014 22:21

Can't wait to begin raising for them Smile
I was considering a local hospital instead but it's the research that is important to me so it gets passed to all hospitals across the world and more and more children are given a better quality of life and even get to keep their lives
