Sudden onset of red cheeks and chin?

No pain or swelling, no temperature. No runny nose or anything indicative of a virus.

Dd2 literally just went all red in the cheeks but seems absolutely fine.

Any ideas?

Slapped cheek? ( also known as Fifth disease, I think)

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/01/2014 20:11

Does that usually affect 3 yr olds and without any cold symptoms? :)

It certainly affects 3 year olds. I'm a nursery teacher and have seen it in many children). Some children have only mild symptoms, in spite of flaming red cheeks. Try googling it and see what the NHS website says.

Ok thanks I will do :) was really strange she got down from the table sat down and went bright red.

But I should be used to strange :)

Could it be a reaction to something she ate?

Twighlightsparkle · 09/01/2014 20:19

First thought is also slapped cheek

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/01/2014 20:23

I've just had a look. She hasn't had a cold or temperature in the past week and it was her chin as well. Slight blue tinge under her lips. No sore throat or head ache. But it did say some present with no symptoms Confused

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/01/2014 20:28

Chicken, rice, green beans, broccoli and a banana and an apple

Ds had this and it was slapped cheek - the fever etc came after the rash. However he didn't have a blue tinge under his lips - are you positive she doesn't have any swelling in her mouth from an allergy?

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/01/2014 23:15

I looked in her mouth as I cleaned her teeth. No swelling. It's gone now, we gave some anti histamine and it's just gone.

She seems absolutely fine.

How very strange. It would be worth keeping a note of the foods she ate, just in case she gets another inexplicable reaction in the future.

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/01/2014 06:45

I think I will do. I thought chicken and rice was supposed to be one of the least allergenic meals :o

She might be brewing this slap cheek who knows, maybe she's one of the ones who barely has any symptoms. Guess it's just a case of keeping an eye on her over the weekend.

I agree that there doesn't seem to be anything on your food list that looks particularly suspicious, but you just next know!

Yes, she could still be brewing slapped cheek so just keep and eye on it.
