Dd had this repeatedly last winter and now has it for the third time this winter.

Just taken her to the doctors and he couldn't have been less interested.

Any helpful MNers around to tell me what it could be or what to do? Have just seen the nhs page on swollen glands and scared myself...

Most likely to be completely normal reaction to viral attack. Young kids are exposed to so many viruses their gland are working overtime- especially in the winter. If the GP wasn't concerned then I would be reassured if I were you. And don't google, for goodness sake!

Could be anything - sounds like glandular fever but would need a blood test to check which can imagine they don't want to do with a child

Glandular fever normally affects teenagers and causes one long run of illness, not normally one winter and then the next

She had it for 3 months last year and hardly did any of the term between Christmas and Easter. Really worried as she seems the same again this winter.

So was she actually I'll enough to be off school all that time? Or just coldly/under the weather? Sore throat? Cough? Chronic tonsillitis can be like that.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/01/2014 11:18

Yes she hardly made it in. Checked for tonsilitis and it wasn't that. Doctors said she didn't have any visible infection, just like yesterday. She woke up this morning complaining about feeling poorly and being tired again. Have managed to get her into school but feel terrible making her go.

Does she ever have fevers with it? Have they checked her wee for uti? Any symptoms at all apart from swollen glands and tired?

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 07/01/2014 11:35

Is she a good eater? Skinny? May need vitamin and mineral supplement/ more fresh fruit and veg?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/01/2014 17:27

Not a good eater but does love fruit and veg, thankfully. No they've not checked for a UTI and she does have a slightly raised temperature that cones and goes.

You could take a urine sample to the surgery to be tested just in case. Not that uti's cause swollen glands, but might be worth ruling out, as she sometimes has temp and malaise but no other specific symptoms. But as I said- it could well just be the constant onslaught of viruses! Did they check her ears?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/01/2014 15:39

Yes he did check her ears and throat, thanks.
