Possible thrush ??

Dd2 is 3 and woke up in the night complaining that her 'bum' hurts this is her vagina.

She seems to have stages of this and when I look she is red and sore I clean her with a warm flannel and apply nappy cream and seems to go away after a few days.
Last night she complained she was itchy and she has a slight white discharge. I am thinking it's probably thrush.

My question is, can I treat this without a trip to the doctors, I don't have a car and a trip to the doctors is a good 45 mins walk, DS is poorly and if rather not take them both out in the awful weather.

Does anyone have an experience of this and help please Smile

at that age it would be best to see a doctor rather than start medicating it yourself. DD was diagnosed with thrush at a similar age and was prescribed canesten 1%. I would treat with nappy cream as before and if it doesnt clear up then take her to the gp

My DD is 3 also and has recurrent thrush-due to going to the toilet by herself at nursery and not wiping properly...
Anyway it sounds exactly like thrush and the GP would prob prescribe canestan. We have been to the docs several times and this is all they will prescribe. I now just buy it to save the hassle of a trip to the GP.

for a first time though I would get it confirmed by a doctor

Interesting to read these replies, DD is just 3 and is also saying her 'bum' is sore, I can't see anything but I'm wandering if this is thrush. She's saying it's itchy when she's in the bath. I think it comes and goes though and sometimes nappy cream seems to help. I'm guessing a trip to the drs is needed. She's recently had a uti and was prescribed antibiotics - am I right in thinking this can sometimes cause thrush?

Thankyou for your replies Smile

Flops I think my DD get this for the same reason, she is so independent and wants to go to the toilet and wipe herself, I supervise most of the time but sometimes it doesn't happen like that.

It's seems to have passed for now so will keep an eye on it and take to GP if it happens again.

I do believe that Anti B s can cause thrush so worth getting that checked too Smile

My dd has exactly the same symptoms. I think she's not been wiping her bum properly. I've just putmamflannel on and sudocrem, but not sure it'll be enough. Will see tomorrow but my daughter had a slight fever so if that continues, might take her to see the dr. Bit concerned putting on canesten as my daughters one is weeping as well....eek
