Uk equivalent of parachoc

I'm on holiday in the UK from Australia and have run out of my son's parachoc medication - he is on a maintenance dose due to ongoing constipation issues (as recommended by my gp and a specialist). I've been to Boots but they don't seem to know of a UK equivalent. Can anyone give me a suggestion for an alternative? Parachoc is a liquid paraffin based milk. My son is five tomorrow. I'm really worried he's going to get all bunged up again. I've used movicol previously but it just seems to give him the runs. Thanks in advance.

not heard of anything but there is laxative chocolate, would that work?

colditz · 02/01/2014 11:04

There is something called Lactulose, which is a very sweet stool softener, and there is something called ExLax, which is chocolate with a laxative added DO NOT GIVE THE WHOLE BAR, READ DOSAGE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

What's the main ingredient of Parachoc? Also I'm pretty sure if you ask to speak to the pharmacist in any chemist, they should know what to do, and if they don't, go somewhere else because they damned well should!

There a listing for it on Amazon UK - is this the stuff?

I think lactulose is what you want. It can be brought over the counter in the uk. I think movicol may have to be percribed but not 100%

Yes take the box and speak to the pharmacist (if the counter staff are dim), I want something with this active ingredient in a child friendly form, isn't rocket science.

You may have to do some sums, if the UK version isn't the same strength, but all medicine has to be labeled clearly with amount of active ingredient per spoon or tablet.

From googling you can get a bottle of liquid paraffin from chemists and it has dosage guides to relieve constipation (parachoc active ingredient is liquid paraffin)

www.expresschemist.co.uk/Bells-Liquid-Paraffin-150ml.html something like this?

Thanks so much everyone. I'm going to try getting some liquid paraffin from the chemist and mix it in with chocolate milk. Really appreciate the responses.
