About once every three to four months my 4 yo dd vomits; projectile liquid vomit about every 20 mins for three days. It follows exactly the same pattern every time. She startes this time on boxing day, for two days before had been irritable andrefusing to eat so we were suspicious it was coming. We are now on day 2 of the vomiting. She has had this intermitentently since about 6 months old. We now know its coming amd how long it will last ect ect. The doctors dont listen all they say is keep her hydrated amd bring her in if she shows signs of dehydration. Its put down to gastroenteritis or stomach flu, rotavirus, nurovirus ect. I dont believe it xan possibly be any of those "bugs" as why on earth would she catch it so often? How do i get the doctors to listen to me that i am seriously concerned about it and i do not think its a bug at all. There is never diarrhoea but she does have spiking temp. I am at my wits end she last had it sept, july before that and so on. But if i take her doc when she has it they say its a bug if i take her between episodes they say she is fit and well. I am getting really upset now i have never known a child to pick up exactly the same bug so many times. As i say it follows the same pattern always three days of vomiting. She vomits green bile which always has me flying to a and e but they always dismiss it. No one will run tests? Has anyone else ever known a child to get a stomach bug 5 timea a year? Every year!

I didn't want to read and run and I'm not normally into thread diagnosing but have you googled Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome? Poor you and your poor DD, sounds horrid. Best of luck getting it sorted

CocktailQueen · 27/12/2013 19:44

I have no idea but I have to say, it doesn't sound at all normal to me. I'd visit the doc again and ask for a referral.
Hugs to you - sounds horrible. X

BettyMacdonald · 27/12/2013 19:46

And yes, agree with CocktailQueen: she should be seen by a pediatrician

Jellymum1 · 27/12/2013 19:47

Thank you i think she should too! Damn gp looks at me like now now crazy neurotic mum....its just a bug. Its awful!

I know a lot of children and I don't know any who have that degree of "stomach bug" with that sort of frequency / regularity.

girliefriend · 27/12/2013 19:53

I'm surprised the g.p has dismissed it tbh, it could be any number of things. Go back to them and demand a ref to paediatrician, would the hv be any use?

PJ67 · 27/12/2013 22:59

Hi. My son has cyclical vomitting syndrome and it also always follows the same pattern. My GP wasn't interested either and I eventually got him to refer to paediatrics who didn't do much. After reading a lot about it I asked to be referred to a paediatric gastroenterologist who did quite a lot of tests then confirmed the CVS. He was given an anti sickness tablet that melts in the mouth and seems to help reduce the amount of time he is sick. I would definitely insist on a referral.

Jellymum1 · 28/12/2013 11:35

Thank you Pj! How old is your son? I feel lile ive been battling for the last two years demanding that this isnt normal. I worry about bowel obstruction, cancer, all sorts! I didnt know about cvs i have just looked it up and thinking about it it does follow the cycle of times where she is excited or anxious, christmas, starting school, going on holiday, her birthday have all been times she has had it. I will ring gp first thing monday to demand a referral to a paed gastroenterologist. Thank you x

Hi. My son is 14 now and this started 4 or 5 yrs ago but did take a while to get properly diagnosed. I don't think this is something the Gp's are very clued up on. Whatever the cause a Gastroenterologist should see her. Would be good to hear how you get on.

Halloweenjunkie · 31/12/2013 11:10

My immediate thought was CVS as well when I read the symptoms. Worth doing some research on it and seeing if the symptoms fot the bill. I hope she feels better soon

RhondaJean · 31/12/2013 11:21

Thank you. I had never heard of cyclic vomiting syndrome but I think my 14yo may be suffering with this.

It seems to be linked to migraines and my mother has severe food allergies which cause migraines characterised by vomiting as well as headache and the light disruptions that go with it. Time to go back to the GP I think.

SkiSchoolRun · 03/01/2014 03:59

I'm sat up with my almost 5yo DD1 who has been vomiting every night for 3w save for 3 48h breaks. Poor kid has lost so much weight and I can't see her going back to school for a while as she's so exhausted (as am I!). Just keep being told its a tummy bug and they won't investigate until sick for 4 weeks. Have had urine and stool samples done but both clear. Sorry to hijack just wondered how long these cvs attacks can last. I suffer dreadfully from migraine.

saintlyjimjams · 03/01/2014 04:04

Agree about checking out cyclic vomiting

My son used to do it as well. Three days & he couldn't keep anything down - sugared water used to help. He was always wiped out. At the time he ate very little anyway & it seemed to occur when he didn't eat - so I wondered whether it was ketosis.

Over the last few days someone has mentioned Gilbert's syndrome to me - and this being a common pattern in her experience (her son had cyclic vomiting). Gilbert's is in our family so if it comes back I'll ask ds1's paediatrician to test for it

saintlyjimjams · 03/01/2014 04:05

Oh yes ds1 is prone to migraines (we think - he's also severely autistic so not always easy to assess pain related symptoms)

saintlyjimjams · 03/01/2014 04:06

His were diagnosed as abdominal migraines btw

Riprap63 · 04/01/2014 20:27

A friend of mine had a did this, in the end I think it was toothbrush hygiene. The kids were leaving the toothbrushes round the sink.
