Will the dr send DS to hospital?

He's 16 weeks old. Had croup like cough all week but Saturday began vomiting and coughing a lot. Was off his milk a lot but was having some. Yesterday he had 5oz first thing in morning and vomited it back up within 10 minutes.

Throughout the day he would take little bits of milk but he only had 8 oz all day. Fed him this morning (4oz to avoid sick) and it's happened again. He's all croaky and irritable. No temp though.

I'm taking him to the Drs at 9:50 but I'm now worrying they might send him to the hospital. I should've taken him yesterday but I thought it was just a small bug , still having wet nappies etc Hmm

I feel like a shit parent.

You aren't a bad parent at all. This sort of thing throws the best of us.

If they think he is dehydrated they may send him to be observed/given fluids for a while,

If not then he will come home with you.

I send my sympathy - it is horrible when they are tiny and poorly.

Keep your chin up, let us know how you get on xxxx

You are not a shit parent, you have tried to help him and done everything right, he's still hydrated and now your getting him checked out.

No idea if they will send to hosp but good luck at the gp.

If he is still hydrated they will most likely just give you advice and ideas of things to look out for, sounds like you have been doing everything right.

Even if they do send you to be observed in hospital it doesn't mean you have done anything wrong or are a shit parent

You've done fine . It may be croup, bronchiolitis or just a cold but better to get checked out. They won't take him in unnecessarily but may just want to keep an eye for a while. Meanwhile prop up the head of his cot/basket on an angle and use a humidifier if you have one or wet towels on a radiator. .

He has a chest infection and has antibiotics.

Thank you for the replies. Hopefully the anti bs will kick in and he won't have a crappy ill first christmas!

My ds2 always coughs himself sick when he has a cough no matter if its viral or chest infection. My GP told me its normal for babies and toddlers to do this.

It doesn't matter too much about how much milk he keeps down so long as he's getting enough fluids which it sounds he is with the wet nappies.
