Pilaris keratosis on DS cheeks, arms and legs - any suggestions for gentle treatments?

DS has had this for years - he's 7 now and although it doesn't bother him much he does scratch or pick it sometimes and as it's only recently appeared on his face I'm worried he will get into a habit of picking it....

I've only really tried exfoliating with cloths/ shower puffs and moisturising with e45 type creams but I'm wondering what else I can do? I really don't want to use anything too harsh or greasy on his face.

It's not the red type spots - just rough tiny bumps but if he scratches or picks they go red.
Any advice would be much appreciated....

I can't help but DS has the same thing.

Bostonpancake · 22/12/2013 20:44

LoganMummy do you treat it at all on your DS?

DS has this too, although it's got a bit better lately. Creams with Urea in are supposed to be good. Eucerin has a facial moisturiser with some urea in it which isn't too greasy. I've never used it consistently enough to vouch for it, but it might be worth trying.

heard sea buckthorne helps

Bostonpancake · 22/12/2013 23:17

Thank you for the ideas - I'll have a look for creams with urea. I also had never heard of sea buckthorn! Just googled it and amazon have Weleda products containing this - some on the reviews mention successfully using it to treat KP so might be worth a try too.

Not sure I can help, I and ds (7) have this, ds on his cheeks and upper arms, I have it on my upper arms and thighs, tried various things on my skin and not drawn any attention to DS's. Fish oils helped me, I also exfoliate every couple of days and use moisturiser containing urea (e45 itch relief contains same as other intensive moisturisers at a fraction of the price)
DS's varies but not tried anything on it

We use the welda weather protection face cream on lo's faces and it's lovely - I'm going to check out the sea buckthorne one too!

Ds has this. I was told it would go in z year but he's still got it after 2yrs. I had it as a child on my upper arms and legs.

I don't use anything. Worried now I should.

I use Flexitol heel balm on ds's upper arms and it works a treat. Sunshine helps too.

I have this and the inky thing that has worked is Burt's bee moisturizer. I bought the belly balm when pg and while it did nothing for my stretch marks, it's amazing for KP on my arms. It leaves my skin ultra smooth without needing to exfoliate. I'll actually be buying some more now it's done it's that good.

Coconut oil from big supermarkets, solid white fat in a jar. Smells lovely, is organic and works. My son calls it the biscuit cream.

I get this when I eat too much wheat. Have noticed that DD1 who practically lives on carbs also has it. If I cut out wheat entirely, I get really soft skin again. Can hardly ever quite manage to do it though...
