Why would DS 1(5) asthmas be lots worse for no obvious reason.

Last few days his asthma has been worse, he is usually pretty stable but has needed his ventolin 4 times today. No illness or anything?

Will see gp Monday. Have upped his clenil too, as advised previously.

Between him and DS2(2) I have been doing inhalers all day (DS2 just starting on the journey). Fed up!

Incubating a virus?

Have you been anywhere with cats/dogs?

Anyone bought you flowers. As above the dust etc from the decorations?

Have you changed your perfume/ deodorant/ washing powder? Any new foods?

Definitely think if anything has been taken out of storing places. My DS' asthma also got worse out of the blue recently. It appears to have been the blanket that I got out of the cupboard to put on his bed because when I removed that he was fine again.

Christmas tree is a possibility. In the past we have aired it prior to putting it up. Been up a week or two though. His triggers illness, hayfever, dogs (actually didn't find this out until last weekend, could it still be affecting him - as in a week later?)

Thanks all, seems I missed the obvious. Do I still need to see gp or just continue with ventolin etc? Considering I have been doing this for 4.5 years I am clueless!

Thanks BeerTricksPotter - brings back horrible memories of his first Xmas when I knew he was ill but my stupid GP wasn't having it (changed gp after and new one is great). We were in hospital by boxing day and he was only tiny at 5.5mths. I get twitchy this time of year if he seems to be struggling. Blush

Have a nice Christmas too.

I think the variable weather is causing a lot of problems this winter, DS is struggling quite a bit recently.

Could be a virus just developing too and showing that way.

Problem with asthma is there are so many triggers and narrowing it down can be a pain in the backside!

grumpalumpgrumped · 21/12/2013 20:54

Think that's it sirzy, I like nice neat explanations and a clear cut reason and asthma just doesn't do that does it! Sorry to hear your DS is struggling too.

I see a GP too. I hate asthma. Ds isn't usually too bad but the last 6 weeks or so he's been coughing loads, he doesn't wheeze. The ooh GP told me you can't have asthma without a wheeze and it was caused by nasal drip which was utter bollocks so be prepared to go in feeling informed iyswim? Ds (7) got steroids from the GP the next day and improved thankfully.

Incidentally know what you mean re this time of year. I am a nervous wreck I think mainly because ds had a horrible chest infection one year and then a couple of years later pneumonia. Crap.

Hope both kids better by time Santa comes

BeaWheesht · 21/12/2013 23:29

I would see a GP

ballroomblitz · 21/12/2013 23:36

Ds has also been struggling a lot from October but his seem to be catching colds and coughs. I noticed the more recent time last week, his asthma flared up a couple of days before it was obvious he had caught a cold. Hate this time of year as I have spent Christmas time in hospital with him before and it's not fun. Yes to gp. Not worth taking the risk. Hope they get better soon

grumpalumpgrumped · 22/12/2013 21:16

Much better day today, have given him antihistamines and bingo, wheezing gone. Will still see GP to get him checked over.
